This lady granted me permission to take her photo on my recent excursion to Bath. As you can see she was dressed up in a Jane Austen costume!
However, she wasn't the only one! There were several young ladies dressed up in costumes, one of them Japanese, but she went scuffling off before I could ask her for a photo.
Well, its not surprising that so many Jane Austens are about in Bath, as there is a Jane Austen Centre there.
I have added a link in case any one would like to find out more about this wonderful authoress and her connections to Bath. Press here .
May I ask you a question? Please, don't think I'm stupid. English is not my navite language. I started my blog here in English for practice. I found some interesting bloggers for me to read them.
ReplyDeleteIn this post I couldn't understand one word "Bath"
Of course, I know the meaning - like shower, washing... but what does it mean here? Is it a proper noun?
I would love to dress up like that myself one day, although I think my rock 'n roll hair would not match the hat. What's a Japanese lady doing dressed up like Jane Austen? That would be like me getting dressed up in a kimono. I suppose it is doable. Imagine Jane Austen followers in Japan. Somehow it doesn't seem natural. What must they think of the English when they read books like that? My word verification is aliter.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise there was a Jane Austin centre in Bath, you learn something every day!
ReplyDeleteThat is a cracking shot! She looks like she belongs in that era too. What a great sport!
ReplyDeleteTo answer "just me" - Bath is a proper noun in this context as it is the name of a city in England.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet of her to pose for you and I get disappointed when somebody doesn't.
ReplyDeletepretty
ReplyDeleteDo you mean the other people were dressed up as Jane Austen just for fun?
ReplyDeleteWe went to an outdoor music and fireworks evening at Lyme Hall once (used as Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of P & P) and people came to that dressed in Austenesque clothes. They were flipping freezing by 7pm!!
That's cool you visited Bath! I've always wanted to go there I think of the Wife of Bath from Chaucer first then think of Jane Austen. :)
ReplyDeletecrazycath - thank a lot!
ReplyDelete"Just me " ....... Many thanks for coming here and reading my blog. English is a strange language and thanks to Crazy Cath you now know that BATH is a city in the South West of England. A beautiful city at that.
ReplyDeleteWorking Mum....... yes other people were wearing Jane Austen costumes. I saw several. The Japanese just LOVE anything like that from England & they love dressing up too.
Her clothes, her dress--she looks like she belongs in that era! What a fun picture!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is fascinating!!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Bath once (on a tour) so the next time I'm there, I'll definitely check this out.
ReplyDeletewho doesn't love jane austen? cute photo...
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing costume..
ReplyDeleteShe looks as if she belongs..
"ooh, looks like fun," says the American girl! Thanks for sharing and stopping by my blog!!
ReplyDeleteVery brave lady. If you want to see genuine Regency costumes the Costume Museum at the Assembly Rooms is well worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty picture. I wouldn't mind dressing up in Regency costume. It looks quite comfortable, doesn't it? Crinolines must have been a nightmare - uncomfortable and dangerous!
ReplyDeleteI love it when people enjoy their obsessions enough to dress like them. THAT'S devotion!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. I'm glad she let you take it. I didn't know people dressed as Jane Austen in Bath either.
ReplyDeleteWhere these people paid to dress up? or was it just a crazy act of Tom foolery lol

Lovely picture Maggie! Have a great time next week!
ReplyDeleteA modern woman well ahead of her time!
ReplyDeleteAnd for anyone who loves the books and history of Jane Austen try to rent or buy the film on Dvd: "The Jane Austen Book Club" - a modern take on the life, loves and books of this remarkable woman! It's a great film!
Wonderful photo Maggie!
Have a great weekend!!
Oh, we haven't been to Bath yet! I can't wait though. You can't grow up reading Austen and NOT go see these places. Thanks for posting about it today.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to go to a Jane Austen center. She is one of my most favorite authors!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very interesting experience.
