Severn Bridge

We went to Severn Beach, near Bristol armed with cameras and thought we would get some really good photos. However, although the day started off with reasonable weather, by the time we got to it, there was a misty fog all over the sea, that obscured most of the detail. I decided to take a picture anyway.



The bridge crosses the River Severn, a treacherous span of water with ferocious tides and stretches out to Wales on the other side. Although the picture is not terribly clear and you cannot see the other side because the bridge is three miles long, this is the quickest way to get to Wales.
This bridge is known as The Second Severn Crossing as it is the second bridge to be built. The first one is still in operation though it is obviously much older and is about half a mile away from this one. On windy days the older bridge has to be closed down. It is possible on a clear day, to see both bridges and that is quite a spectacle.
I will have to try and get a picture of the two, if the opportunity arises.

    OOooooo- I agree - a ghost bridge. I think your pics are lovely. Very mystical and beautiful. I'd love to see those two bridges in a photo. You live in such a pretty part of the world.

    Was the other bridge you mentioned the Clifton Suspension Bridge? I used to cross under it when driving up to my sister's house in Worcestershire from Devon and absolutely loved looking up at it. Funnily enough I mentioned this in another blog, J's I believe. You took two very good photos, love the misty one.

    Although the first bridge picture does show the mist and fog, there is something about it -kind of mysterious I guess -that I found really appealing. As others have said, I too enjoy your photographs and do envy your eye for taking such great pics.

    I think the fog made for extra special pictures, if not for clarity, then at least for atmosphere and they are good photos. You are turning out to be quite the photographer. I like these posts with photographs. It shows me some interesting parts of your country, no matter how big or small.

    Maggie, I love it in the for, anybdy can get a great clear day photo, the fog gives it mystery and magic. It is a quite spectacular bridge to drive across.

    I love the fog... I don't think the picture could have been more perfect at all... even on a clear day. It adds a mystery that I always associate with bridges... lost stories, lost loves... I love mystery.

    I am actually really glad that it was foggy though. These photos are fantastic and I love that first one. Very mysterious looking. Excellent shots.

    The photos are beautiful! The fog makes the bridge look just that much more treacherous. I didn't know that you had to cross such a long bridge to get into Wales; I really must study my geography a little more.

    There is a Severn River with a small town called Severn Bridge in Ontario, Canada. It was probably named after your Severn Bridge. I never made the connection until your post... Funny how small the world really is.
