This is my little garden in Autumn. Nothing much in flower except Sedum Spectabilis, Autumn Joy. And what a joy it is too, cheering up an otherwise drab scene. This has been a treasure and I'm so glad that I got it. The last of the butterflies and bees have come to visit. The Japanese Anemonies are nearly over. Nothing much else will flower now but but I have a few confused plants wondering what happened to the sudden lengthened summer that we had earlier. A carnation is still producing flowers and also lavender and ceanothus.
Now the weather is still sunny but quite cold, going from one extreme to another.
I think my little Japanese maple has expired but I will give it the benefit of the doubt until next Spring. It might have succumbed to all the building work earlier on or it might not have liked the unexpected month of sunshine that we have just had, when all it really wanted to do was to drop it's leaves and sleep.
I have that sedum, lovely colour. Our sunflowers have started producing new flowers - so confused!

ReplyDeleteYou have a nice garden, Maggie, and I bet it gives you lots of joy. I hope your maple tree is going to be alright. It would be a real shame if it died, but I would hope that you'd get a new one, because you can't beat it for Autumn color. Looking at your garden awakens the gardener in me. It is a very latent one, but it is still there. Maybe next year.

Dear Maggie, your garden looks beautiful. The strong plants have thrived, and the others have just hung in there while destruction and building, then the two repeated all over again occured at the "kitchen end" of your home.

ReplyDeleteI picked some of that Sedum a few weeks ago on a walk, but didn't know what it was called- it looked lovely in a vase for about a week. Must plant some next spring, it's nice to get flowers in October.
I like your garden in autumn. The color of the sedum is subtle yet rich.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is lovely, Maggie May! It seems to have survived just fine from all the remodeling work. "Autumn Joy" is one of my favorites in the fall. I love the bright rosy pink of yours; mine has already turned to burgundy with the cold weather.

ReplyDeleteYou had summer there? WOW! I am truly impressed by that since we only had about a week of summer and that didn't show up here until mid-August! Glad to know someone got to enjoy some nice weather though. And also, that you still have some color in your garden too -that is awesome! It's been pretty grey with a bit of white, wet stuff the last couple of days here -and cold too, very cold for this early in October!

ReplyDeleteI have some Autumn Joy in my garden too but it's not nearly as colourful as yours. Lovely shots of season's end.
ReplyDeleteI still have flowering Geraniums and a few roses. But most of the colour is from the Virginia creeper which is splended this year.

Your garden is so beautiful Maggie. All those colors still managing to come through, with the green back drop. It really is tranquil and what I wouldn't give to come have a cup of tea in your very special garden. You really have a special touch with plants and flowers, you should be proud.

What interest me is the nomenclature of plant species that I often wonder where on earth the name came from. Pretty flower to cover the multitude of some unseasoned drabness. Lovely post Maggie May.

Even just a touch of colour makes the garden pleasant. I have sunflowers blooming right now. In Scotland!! Can you believe that!?
