Bunk Bed Drama

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and Mamageek

Not long after my family temporarily moved in with me, I was awakened in the early hours of the morning by the eldest grandchild crying. Funny how no one else heard that! Well I went in to investigate and found Amber, who slept in the top bunk, had wet the bed. I got her out and took her into the bathroom to wash her down. Still nobody else wakened up. I then climbed onto the top bunk to take off the wet sheets and to replace them.
All went well until I tried to get out of the top bunk entrance coming down the ladder backwards and my hips held fast. I was stuck.

"Grannie's stuck, Amber," I whispered.
"Never mind," she replied, "I'll get in the bottom with Millie!"

I went back and forth like a car doing a three point turn and found that if I came down using a different leg, I was out of my prison!
I had thought the family would take the bunk beds to the new house when they left. However the children's bedroom is so small that they would take up too much space. They use Japanese roll up beds so that they can use the floor space as a play area. The bunk beds will come in handy for when the grandsons visit!

This is my story and my photo and is hosted by Cecily and Mamageek.

  1. Don't you hate that? I got stuck getting cat food off a low shelf at Walmart the other day. A very nice man helped me up and winced right along with me.

  2. You know, if I tell you I was chuckling here as I read this I wasn't laughing at you because I figure you were probably kind of laughing about the predicament too, weren't you. So I was laughing with you. I could just picture myself in the same type situation too! Only I'd probably wake the whole damned house up, yelling for someone to come get me down! Have a great day and Peace!

  3. Glad you managed to get down eventually. I love it when kids think of themselves - don't worry about Granny - I'm ok!
    Priceless....

Can't believe no-one else woke up to the crying though!

  8. Oh, I can so relate with this post. I am so glad you can see the humor in it, it is very funny. Your such a good grandmother, getting up in the middle of the night, to take care of her. Pure love. Pure light.

    Have a good weekend.

whenever my brother visits with his kids - I also seem to be the only one who hears them tearing into stuff in the morning.

  12. I can just picture it Maggie!

Personally, I don't think you've lived till you've changed the bedding on the top bunk two days before giving birth!

  13. Ouch, that must have been quite a scary moment being stuck like that in the middle of the night. I'm not sure that I wouldn't have tried screaming as an effective way of getting help to get released!

  17. That would not have been fun. It will be one of those things you will remember as you pass by the room.

  18. That's hilarious! There's little decorum to be maintained when dealing with sheets on the top bunk - it's always a right kerfuffle.

  19. I love that when you told her you were stuck she was only concerned about her sleeping space. Kids. :)

  20. HAhaha, I'm laughing so hard because I can just picture myself getting stuck in that kind of situation! I hate changing sheets on bunk beds!

  21. How funny! I like Amber's response--kids can be very practical at times. I do hope you don't have to change the sheets very often!

  22. Haha poor thing. Glad you managed to free yourself even if it was with a 100point turn! As for 'not' hearing things, we once had police helicopters scouring the street from about 60 feet in the middle of the night after a local bank was burgled. My kids (and dogs)didn't hear a thing!

  24. Our problem was the other side of the coin. When we moved to our cottage our spare bedroom bed would not go round the corner at the top of the stairs. So initially it was dumped in our living room. Luckily it was spare at the time.

  25. I bet a man invented bunk beds. My worst experience was years ago: Alex having a nightmare in the top bunk and wetting himself, his bed, and his brother in the lower bunk. Two wet beds, two wet boys and typically absent husband!

  26. Maggie I'm just catching up on some posts. That is my worst nightmare. Since hubby made a cabin bed for #2, I have discovered the difficulty of getting up and down the ladder as I am much more arthritic etc. than I was when #1 was young and had his cabin bed! lol I will remember not to get stuck fast I hope...

    Great story.
