Have you noticed I have changed something in my blog profile?
The roof work seems to be going on for ever and the plants are struggling to survive the dense shade under the scaffolding.
Things are progressing though, and the end is in sight now. The new roof windows will provide more light in the kitchen.
This is what it looked like before the windows were put in. I am working through the photos in reverse order. Workmen's equipment can make a good study, I think.
The light and shade of the building materials can catch the eye with the sun suddenly shining on it and there are little shafts of light where you least expect to see any.
I was up the ladder at every opportunity with my camera keeping track of what was going on.
The birds have been scared away from their favourite tree where they used to spend time sheltering inside the dense branches. I am so looking forward to hearing them chatter again after this is over.
Since the work started, I have had things from the kitchen packed in boxes on the floor and there is all sorts of clutter to keep stepping over. I am at present in agony with my back problem. It seems one thing gets cleared up only for another problem to set in.
The picture below shows how things looked when the first lot of scaffolders had left.
I will be glad to get my garden back and get rid of it. Maybe in a week or so...........
Backs alway give out at the least opportune moment - usually when there is something life changing going on - sad but seemingly true fact...Hope yours is not too painful today...

Dear Maggie, I much sympathize with you bad back and hope yours gets healed fast and that you will be walking around sprightly in no time at all. Just don't climb any scaffolding.

Roof work is terrible...a number of years ago, a tornado required that we replace our roof... miserable... here's hoping that the job comes to a close quickly for you!!! Up on the scaffolding to take pictures?!? You are very dedicated, and much braver than I am!!!! Hope your back is better soon!!!! And that it disappears along with the rats!!! ReplyDeleteIt was 20 years ago that I finally got the final approval for a loan to get my kitchen and sunporch roofs fixed -not exactly rebuilt, like yours, (semi-rebuilt I guess you'd say) and I had the kitchen redone -new cabinets, counter, etc., a couple walls cut back to make the downstairs as open and spread out as possible. That work too seemed to go on forever as we lived out of boxes all over the downstairs and stuff stashed hither, thither and yon. But I never had my roof "open" to the seasons and scaffolding and such to maneuver around and thankfully, I wasn't worrying about tracking down rats either. But still, regardless of the situation, the turmoil involved with trying to go about your daily business in a home that is all torn up with construction is a royal pain in the dupa, isn't it?

That has been a massive job, but thankfully the end is near and you will not know what to with yourself.

The workmen probably think you are checking their workmanship at each point, not a bad idea:) It's always hard to live through any kind of remodeling or construction work, but you will be so happy when it's all done--I know you will love those skylights! I do hope your back gets better soon; take care of yourself.
