Never A Truer Word

Recently, we received two surprises within a couple of days. The first was a call from my nephew telling me to look forward to becoming a Great Aunt in October. The next day, we received a telephone call from our son, Sam, to say that he and Sandy had booked their wedding at the end of August.
It was good to receive some good news for a change.

When my granddaughters came round for breakfast the next day, we obviously started talking about the wedding and what we might all wear.
Amber, being a bit of a tom boy, said that she wanted to wear a suit and wouldn't wear a dress at any cost.
Millie wasn't sure what she wanted to wear and said she'd have to think about it.
I announced that I would soon be out looking for a suitable dress. Hearing that, Amber replied, "Oh, its far too early, Gran, you might get a sudden growth spurt by then."
I had a good laugh because the only growth spurt I might get is in width, not in height. Lets hope that doesn't happen. I will have to watch my chocolate consumption from now on.

  1. Weddings are 'the' ultimate dress-up occasions. You will have to work on the kidlets.

  5. Lovely positive news, we all need a good dose of that now and again.

I'm certainly at the other side of the crowd. I absolutely HATE dressing up, I wish all weddings were in either jeans or pyjamas.

    Hey! there's an idea!

  7. I am glad you got two pieces of good news, surely a third one will follow. Leave that chocolate alone and start looking for a dress a month before the wedding. That will give you ample time and you will get the right size. Unless you'd rather wear a suit.

  10. I looked for a dress for 3 or 4 months before my son's wedding and never did find one I absolutely loved -- so get to it as soon as you can! Are you already thinking about colors?

  11. I agree with dianefaith. Get that one concern out of the way (will you have other responsibilities?). My daughter took me shopping—not the one getting married— and since I knew she only had one day, we got it done very quickly. Not perfect, but good enough.

Thanks for your kind wishes. I hope you and Harry will be in tip-top form on the big day.

  17. That is absolutely wonderful news. Now that I have FINALLY become a "Nana" for the first time - baby Harper Ann ( the first girl in our family for eons ) was born April 14, I can't wait to experience her utterings which I am sure will be the source of much embarrassment and delight to me.

  19. Out of the mouths of babes...:) So happy to hear your wonderful news! I agree with the other commenters--start shopping early for a dress. It took me months before I found one that I liked for my daughter's wedding.
