Three Year Old Rascals

Photo Copyright Maggie May

One of my regular Blogging friends emailed me recently to ask if I still have my rabbits because I hadn't mentioned them for a while. In view of that, I thought that I ought to do an update on them.
They are now three years old and are as much in love with each other as ever. They live in the house and apart from gnawing on the wood of their run and seriously undermining the strength of it, they don't get up to too much mischief.
Ash, the Netherland Dwarf, keeps himself fairly spruce and doesn't need much grooming. Lily, on the other hand, being long haired, does need brushing, detangling and an occasional trim round the hind quarters to keep her clean.
Several times a year, I need help with having their claws clipped and also when I need to take them to the vets for their yearly injection.
I keep telling myself that I have to stay well for them as there doesn't seem to be anyone who could look after them if I was too ill to do it.

Harry is plodding on with his chemo and will be undergoing number 9 this coming week. He will also be celebrating his 74th Birthday. He is often unwell but rarely complains.
I have recently had one of my three monthly examinations by my Oncology Consultant and he told me that he wasn't concerned and that I can go back in three months time, which will be in September. The hospital always stresses that if I have any new symptoms I must get in touch straight away. The possibility of that happening is something that I have to learn to live with. This Autumn it will be four years since I was told that I had secondary cancer which was quite a shock.
The media recently stated that very soon, one in every two people will find that they need to be treated for cancer instead of the present one in three. I think it's because we are all living much longer and not dying of other things. However, a large proportion of those diagnosed, will be cured if caught early enough and an even larger proportion of those people will be treated and be able to live with the disease for a long time. In the meantime lets hope there will be a cure so that nobody has to suffer from it any more.

The warm weather seems to be holding out and I have been wearing more summery clothes. Long may it last.

Three years? How time flies...
They have been very therapeutic, haven't they? I still remember when you decided to get a rabbit, how excited you were.

I csn't believe they're 3 years old already. Doesn't time fly?

Good news for you from your specialist, and lets hope your next apt will give you the same result.

Keeping fingers and everything crossed for Harry and hoping he comes through all this. Happy Birthday to him too xx

Thanks for the update on your health and on Harry's. He must be such an amazing man to suffer through without complaint. It is great to hear your good news about your cancer. Have a wonderful summer.

I had the same reaction reading that your bunnies are already three that i often do when I hear of someone's kids all grown up. Time passes quickly when it's other folks doing the rearing (whether of kids or pets). I hope that Harry maintains that that your health continues to be well. Happy Birthday to Harry. And as always, Hugs to you.

Thanks for the update: I remember you writing about getting Ash, and then Lily, and the building of the hutch. I'm glad they are doing well.

I'm also glad that Harry is plodding along. It can't be fun, but if it's helping at all, it's worth the distress. I hope he will soon be out the other side and feeling much better.

It's so good to hear that you are still doing well, also. I pray you will have many more years to enjoy life with your family and pets.

Blessings~

As one who has had two different types of cancer within the past 10 years, I share your sentiments totally about wishing/hoping/praying for a cure! But, so far, I've been lucky in that I've had chemo 3 times and radiation once, plus two major abdominal surgeries pertaining to the cancer and I've come out okay with each thing there. But, the threat is always a "heavy hangs overhead" type of thing in any cancer patient's life.

I wish it was a one and done prospect, so that I could know I'd already checked mine off for my lifetime.

Sending warm healing thoughts to Harry and to you.

Gosh I can hardly believe you've had the rabbits 3 years! It's good that your consultant doesn't want to see you for another 3 months, I have you and Harry in my prayers. x

What is the life span of rabbits? You sure take wonderful care of your pets! They are so sweet.

It is sad that Harry is suffering so but he is hanging in there. You are often in my thoughts.

I arrived in India again on 3 June..hope to stay six months..monsoon season in Mumbai is madness, though.

Good to see the bunnies again; it's hard to believe they're already 3 years old!

Harry sounds like a trooper; I do hope the chemo produces some positive results. It's good to hear you are doing better, Maggie. I agree, I hope we find a cure for this awful disease sometime soon.

Rabbits are such calming creatures I always thing, though I'm a sucker for them and have a toy rabbit that I've had since I was 5. She's 38 now (I'm 43) and she's looking a bit bedraggled, but she goes everywhere with me! Maybe one day I'll blog about her.

Stay well.

Happy birthday to the rabbits!

There have been lots of bunnies in our neighborhood lately. We never had any before, so I don't know why they're showing up now. I'm glad they're here, though. It makes for a pleasant surprise to every so often go out into the backyard and see one hopping about.

Hello Maggie

I haven't looked in for several months and it was lovely to read about your dear little rabbits. They are very sweet. Pleased too to read that you are keeping well, so hope that Harry is soon over his chemo and recovers well from it. Hear, hear to your hopes that a cure for cancer is found very soon, it affects so many of us. Best wishes to you and Harry. A x
