Saturday Nights

I can remember when Saturday nights were, if not exiting then really enjoyable when Harry and I used to go dancing, out for a long stroll, visiting friends or maybe entertaining them here or maybe going to the cinema.
Nowadays, things have really slowed down and our pleasures have narrowed drastically.
Saturday night is now fish and chip night! I traipse along, armed with my padded bag to keep things warm, to our local fish & chip bar, that has won prizes for their wonderful take away cuisine, coming within the top few of all the fish and chip bars in the whole of the South West of England. I'm not surprised by this as their fish and chips are really delicious and don't seem to be dripping in fat the way many other places seem to produce theirs. Harry always insists on having the slices of lemon that they provide and that really compliments a wonderful, tasty Saturday night treat!
How about you?

Always a special night in with hubby - tonight a recipe that was on food and drink last night. Am just about to do my blog - you'll be very interested I'm sure!

I'm not overly fond of most deep-fried foods but there's a fish and chips place in town here that really serves them up nicely. I've never been to Europe but Frank has and says that this is nearly at par with the ones in your neck of the world.

Nice that you can bring home fish and chips from a great venue! Yes, life seems to just be relegated to a few breaks like these at a certain time.

It's the little things in life that make it happy. No more dancing for me either on Saturday nights, but those memories are fun to look back on.

David and I used to order pizza and rent a movie. Something the kids do these days, but we were happy to be comfy in our home.

Those fish and chips look mouth-watering!

I could picture you making your trek to get the fish and chips for your Saturday night dinner.

I fixed fish and chips from the frozen section of the grocery store tonight. We thought they were pretty good, and they provided a quick dinner after my hubby came home from work. Then, I saw your photo and knew my dinner did not measure up at all. Hubby would have loved your fish and chips.

I know of nowhere here where we can get fish and chips like I've eaten in England. I still remember the ones I had in Ely right down the road from the cathedral.

My Saturday nights aren't very exciting now that I am living on my own! I'll be in England later on this year, so I'll make sure I get my quota of fish'n'chips then.

When our children were younger, we used to look forward to Saturday nights, getting a babysitter so that we could go out and enjoy an evening together, often with friends. Now that there's no need to hire a babysitter, we prefer staying in on Saturday nights:) But I wish we had a fish and chips place nearby--those look delicious!

mmm, looks delicious Maggie!
We don't much go for fish and chips, but we do love our local Indian restaurant, which does take-away. Sometimes the small pleasures are lovely too, even though I sense your sadness that you're not as mobile as you used to be.

Love a chippy tea but we don't have one very often. I remember when I was a child it was a tradition on a Friday but it's really expensive now, don't you think?

Are those mushy peas I see?

Yum!

What a great new tradition!

That plate of fish and chips certainly looks good.

We are usually in on a Saturday night with a bottle of wine and a nice meal that I have cooked.
