Clinging To Life

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

We're not yet out of January, so it was surprisingly lovely to see a clear blue sky whilst walking over the common today. Admittedly I was well wrapped up with scarf, woolly hat and gloves but nevertheless it was encouraging to know that the promise of Spring is not far away.

It was heartwarming to see a Pelargonium (in England classed as a bedding plant) not only clinging to life but producing flowers too.
We've had some very heavy frosts, which are not over yet and I was going to throw this plant in the waste recycling bin. However, I think it deserves a chance to live now, so if it does survive the next two cold months, I shall repot it and take cuttings.
We could all do with a second chance, don't you think?

It looks like spring there. Enjoy the weather every chance you get!

Second chances sound wonderful. I've needed a few of those!

Encouraging to see better days and nice to know Spring is not far away.

Spring is still far far away where I live. Love that blue sky. It has been very dull and grey here although we did see a few rays of sunshine this afternoon. Nice to see the word pelargonium. Most people here call them geraniums, much to the disgust of my friend who is the president of the local pelargonium society!!

I've got a geranium on my front porch which has made it through two winters now - even through the recent freezing cold. It is protected from the worst but still exposed to the cold temperature. Maybe they are evolving to cope!

Those geraniums are hardy souls, aren't they? I think yours is a keeper!
Love the blue sky in your first picture and it seems as if spring is on its way.

Hope you have some warm days soon.

Pelargoniums--I call them geraniums--are pretty tough plants. Don't give up on it! Nice to see the blue sky and sun shining in your photos. We've had such gray gloomy days all January, it seems; I'm ready for some snow!

I've got a couple of geraniums that have survived - they definitely deserve a chance!

I'm enjoying the blue sky too Maggie, seems spring is not far away now x

We have blue sky and sun here too First time in many snowy days. I envy you your bloom, whatever its proper name may be.
It is quite cold, however. I will be venturing out in a down coat, wool socks under my boots and several underlayers.
My daughter's dog is here, as is her cat, and the dog loves the snow. She comes in from a walk covered in snowballs clinging to her coat. The cat hates snow and cold and is much disgusted. Animals surely can cheer you up.
Oh, to be in England. It will be another two months before we see the ground again.

I love how some of the most fragile creatures of nature can be the most tenacious when it comes to clinging to life. Beautiful photos, Maggie.

I have got one like that and after seeing your plans I think I will repot it too. Well, I will go and retrieve it from the dustbin area now :).
