The Allotments

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

At first sight, I thought this was just an ordinary signpost but when I looked behind it I noticed the tiny insect house.
Recently, I happened to be near some allotments and I thought there were some very interesting things there. I usually take my camera wherever I go so used the opportunity to take photos.
There isn't much going on in my garden. In fact it looks quite dreary and lifeless at the moment. The allotment seemed much more exciting.

These beehives look interesting. I'm not sure whether there are any occupants hibernating or not. A queen perhaps?
I was not going to look.

This little fire was being used as a place to make toast. There was a group of people nearby.

The fencing made quite a good photo, I thought and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a home to lots of creatures hibernating underneath.

However, this is perhaps, a little home to something covered with prickles.
Maybe Beatrix Potter's Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.
Hope you enjoyed my little stroll.

It's terrible, but I don't know what bees do during the winter. I ought to find out about that. My grandfather used to keep bees, but I was too young at the time to ask him. Nice little stroll you took us on.

I read a few blogs from the UK who have allotments, and I'm always amazed by all the things they are able to grow in this space. We don't have this in the US, although our nearby small city offers two places where people can rent a plot for gardening. It will be interesting to see this in the spring and summer when it's full of green again. I'm not sure about the bees either--I think they hibernate during the winter, but you were wise not to investigate too closely:)

You take wonderful photos Maggie. Oh allotments...that brings back memories. My Dad used to have one, in fact most of the men in his family did. A friend of mine was telling me when I was last in England that they are starting to come back into fashion again.

The toast outdoors would be a treat. I hope people don't live outdoors and every meal is by a little fire pit though. I am so curious that I would have had to look in the bee hives.

Taking a stroll with you this morning reminded me -yet again -that I need to start doing things like that again too! Walk the dog. Take my camera and just go out and look around. But I wish I had an eye for the stuff the way you do and could make pictures of the ordinary things we encounter look exciting and interesting.

That was a lovely stroll. Thank you for sharing. Can I confess something? I so love being out for walks and enjoying the scenery but rarely do I sit on the ground because I am concerned about little bugs finding me habitable. I wouldn't become beside myself or anything. I know God made them so they have purpose. I just can't stand the suspenseful thought of finding crawlies on me. Silly huh?

Allotments? Are these bee hives hired/rented to kick start spring season?

Love your pictures of nooks and crannies and interesting stuff.

Fun little walk through the flora and fauna. I've never seen the insect house behind a signpost. Interesting.

How lovely to look around the allotment. I think you are probably right Maggie, those piles of wood and leaves and such may well be a cosy winter home for many creatures. A x

Great stroll and pictures Maggie. If you'd have lifted the fencing a little higher you might have seen me hibernating! . . . LOL . . . oh this awful weather. . . . roll on the warmth.
