The Other Side Of The Door

Photo Copyright:Maggie May

The door of the new year has now been opened and we are getting on with life in 2011.
The Christmas decorations have been taken down and things are slowly getting back to normal.
My daughter is now back home on the east coast and the house seems very quiet.
She rang to say that Rick, who is autistic, was moaning to her that he was homesick.
"What do you mean?" She said, "You are home."
"I miss everyone in Bristol." He replied.
Once they all got over their illnesses, the cousins played very well together in the attic and only emerged when they got hungry.

This morning, I was rather taken back when I saw what they had done up there. The whole room had been rearranged with bedding spread all over the place and they'd made it into little dens.
Oh well...... they did enjoy it.
Its back to school tomorrow for Amber and Millie, in fact Rick and Dean went back today. Its After School Club for me too.

Lily, the rabbit has made a remarkable recovery. I have had to dismantle the small part of the pen she was cooped up in. I thought she might try to injure herself in her quest to jump out. So even though I was advised not to put the two rabbits together, I decided to go with my instincts and my knowledge of my rabbits personalities, and leave them together permanently.
Well, Ash so far, hasn't pulled out her stitches and they seemed so pleased to snuggle together again. It is a joy to watch them.
In fact Lily has been bouncing about in sheer delight. I am sure she has recovered far more quickly because she was part of a bonded pair.
Lets hope the vet was just playing on the side of caution and that I won't live to regret it because the stitches are not due to come out until next week.

Your grandkids do know how to have a good time. It's nice that they amuse themselves so well that they only appear when they are hungry.

Great news about Lily. I'm glad she is with Ash again and that they are both happy about it and behaving. You are a lucky rabbit owner.

I'm sure your instincts are spot on about the bunnies. They belong together. Glad to know you had a great time with the kidlets but I'll bet it's nice to settle back into the quiet.

You must have enjoyed those kids, but they do take a lot of energy. Hope you get to relax a bit now that they are back home.

So glad the grandchildren had so much fun, happy that your daughter is home safe and sound and that you all had a good holiday.
Your bunnies sound delightful, you know Maggie I was going to e-mail you. As I was sitting by the fire there was a huge bang on my window that frightened me so much. When I looked I thought is was a cat but the window was covered in snow and blood so I went out to check. It was the most beautiful fluffy white rabbit - it went through the fence and I couldn't find where he went. Do you think he cut his lip or something when he hit the window. I have never seen a rabbit around here before. Happy New Year my friend.....:-) Hugs

The new year started sadly for me. My daughter-in-law ( ten weeks pregnant ) and son called early morning on the 2nd to say Laura lost the baby. They had just given me the sonogram picture on Christmas Day. I wrote a poem,
"To My Grandchild" and I have been mourning. The doctor doesn't know what was wrong but there is no reason they should not try again.

I hear you stories of life with you grandchildren and, being 66, I hope I'll have time to spend with grandchildren of my own.

""What do you mean?" She said, "You are home."
"I miss everyone in Bristol." He replied. Oh...how that tugs at my heart, Maggie. Love is so grand....
I send snuggly bunny hugs to Ash and Lily...hoping that all goes well with them as they are together again.
Much love to you, Maggie...

I love that your bunnies are sooo sweet together!! As for the grandkids..I know my mom feels that way every time they leave! She shakes her head in wonder at the 'mess' they made and in joy at the fun they had doing it!:)

So glad everyone got better and was able to make all those fun memories. How fun to take over the attic. Oh the creative stories that spun to life under those eaves. They will refer back to those times for years to come.

So glad too that Lily and Ash are doing well and happily together again.

Blessings to you today Maggie.

Your grands made themselves a home within your home. How secure they must feel with you! Glad Lily is on the mend. Maybe you can have a little space of peace to store up for the next adventure.

I'm sure you've done the right thing with bunnies.

Glad all your small people had a great time together. Mine love building dens too, but it always involves such a mess, gathering things from all over the house. Good luck with clearing up, and the back to work routine.

Lovely picture of the other side, Maggie, and now we're at the other side of the year!
Good news on Lily, and I agree that she'll recover more quickly with the love and companionship of Ash. It's like a rabbit version of Kangaroo Care they do with preemie babies.
You're back to school early! We don't go back till Monday! Great, as I haven't taken down the decorations yet!

Our basement is the "playroom" for the grandkids, and I never know what it's going to look like after they leave:) But they do have fun!

Glad to hear Lily is doing so well; sounds like she and Ash have missed each other's company.

That's a lovely door picture, and dens for the kids a small price to pay for their playing happily! Nice to know that playing happily extends to the rabbits as well! lol :)
