A Right Pane

Photos Copyright: Maggie May

In one of my recent posts The Missing Glass Panel, I explained why my front porch looked a bit strange to other people because it had a whole section of stained glass missing and had been replaced by frosted glass before we moved into this house in 1970. Of course we were quite used to seeing it like that.
Anyway, my friend, Paula, offered to make a completely new panel for us and after what seemed like a very complicated procedure of measuring, drawings and glass cutting, the finished panels arrived the other day, in what seemed like no time at all.

While my son was taking out the old glass and preparing the cavity in order to fit the new panels, I took a snap of them while they were standing in my front room.
The colours look stunning and just as a reminder of how the porch looked like before, just refer to the bottom photo.
I am so pleased with the results, Paula. Thank you very much.
Any idea what I could do with the glass panel in the door?

How beautiful, I love stained glass. If the panel is shatterproof and thick enough, maybe you could make it into an outdoor table. Or sell it?

The new panel really looks gorgeous, Maggie. But don't ever ask me for suggestions about things pertaining to decorating cause my senses in that department are pretty much dead!

Stunning! What beautiful work Paula does!!!

If you're asking if you should replace the door panel, I actually like the look of the frosted glass there.

If you are replacing the door panel, I think Celia is on the right track...a table top is a great idea! And if it didn't work for an outdoor table, topping an indoor table would look nice, too.

Either way, I am envious.

Lovely, Lovely!

I am very impressed Maggie. Paula is a very talented 'craftslady'. The detail and the way she has matched the existing is fantastic! I am looking forward to seeing it all done.

Not sure what you could do with the old patterned glass - is it toughened? If not there is not much you can do with it, considering H&S issues.

Love your new panel, Maggie. I'd ask Paula for suggestions on what to do with the old one. She is such a talented lady, she is sure to have some good ideas. Perhaps she could do something with it herself?

What a beautiful statement, and so inspiring.

The new leaded glass window is beautiful and it looks very good. Maybe you could make an opaque curtain in one of the colors of the leaded glass window for the window in the door and have a thin rod both at the top and the bottom.

Lovely! I'm amazed at how similar the design is to mine, which is only 7 years old and i designed it myself. I must have been dreaming about your door all those years ago.

Pale green glass pane?

She did a great job. What is wrong with the glass in the middle of the door? I like it. There is a design and privacy. Perfect.

Maggie May...I love the newly installed glass panel...perfectly matched.
I also am a fan of keeping the frosted glass in your front door, but if you are going to replace it, you could use the glass that you remove for a center table top..(edged with wood)...or you could use the glass for a portion of an interior door....an innovative way that people are using frosted glass now instead of all solid wood doors....so many uses for the glass!
I love your door, Maggie. I know that you are proud of it. It is beautiful!
Love,
Jackie

Maggie, you must be thrilled with it! It is beautiful!
Paula did a fantastic job of creating a panel that fits in perfectly.
It says so much about both of you, and your friendship, that she did this for you.
I'd love to see the middle bit done in stained glass too. And re the leftover glass, I agree with whoever said that maybe Paula will have a use for it?

I like the glass panel the way it is. I think it's beautiful (and yes I clicked to enlarge photo!)

What an excellent job she did! And she worked so quickly!

Perhaps the other panel could be used for a little table at the entry way with a wrought iron base of some kind. You could put flowers or some sort of other display on it.

What a wonderful friend to have! I have done a bit of stained glass work and know how hard the cutting can be. Her results are spectacular!
