Silly Spider and a Meme

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

I am normally the kind of person who doesn't like spiders, so you may well ask why I have given this one pride of place on top of this post.
Well one of the granddaughters brought it home last Halloween and it ended up on my wall and has been there ever since.
Not sure how it has ended up on my blog though.

I get a lot of memes and awards and I apologise to the kind people who send them. I am really bad about passing these on and I know that someone asked me to write seven things that you didn't know about me. I have done this kind of thing before. Now I will attempt to write another seven.

1) When I was a child, I spent much of my school holiday in the Lake District because we had relatives there. We used to go camping in a field each year, first in a tent and later a small caravan that was fairly near to the relatives farm near Coniston Water. We used to spend three weeks of every year there and it always rained for those three weeks.

2) When I was about 17, my father let me try out his Lambretta scooter on our drive and unfortunately, he didn't tell me how to stop the machine and I went straight into our front gate, which I knocked off its hinges.

3) I've never enjoyed cooking and regard it as a chore. I was taught as a child to bake cakes and make simple meals but I've never really enjoyed the process..... only the eating.

4) The house where I live now, is the 5th house that I've ever lived in and I have been here longer than any of the others. (41 years!)

5) I prefer living in a city to the country. However I do love to visit the country for short spells (especially the sea) but I am happier in the city, where everything is at at hand.

6) My first memory is probably of me being left in a pram outside a butchers shop, where my mother (and everyone else's mother) had to queue for ages to get a small bit of meat, during the war years. I can remember bouncing about with boredom until the pram tipped up and my poor mother had to come to the rescue and missed her place in the queue.

7) My favourite colour is blue, but I also like green, pink and purple. Brown is my least favourite colour.

I am really sorry that I can't remember who set me this meme.
If anyone else would like to take up the challenge then that would be great. Let me know when you do it and I'll go and read it.

Wow, 41 years in one place. The longest I lived in one place was nine years. I have moved at least a hundred times in my lifetime, maybe more than that really.
When you crashed the scooter into the gate did you get injured? Did you learn about the brakes and get to ride it after that? Did that scamp of a brother of yours tease you unmercifully about the crash? Ha.

TechnoBabe...... no I didn't get injured. I think I jumped astride the machine & it chugged into the gate. I did get to learn how to ride it down lanes & waste ground but never got my test so I never went out on the road.
Don't know where my brother was at the time but he was unaware of it..... until now, that is.Sigh......!

I recently moved again for the 15 time in my life. I hate moving with a passion. I believe it causes minimalistic habits and I very much like my to keep the small stuff. (Cancer has made me want to keep every memory that I can) Sean and I have spent a lot of time fixing this place up; I am hopeful that we will finish raising out kids here and watch our wonderful neighbors do the same. Find our very own porch swing and do daily word puzzles in our old age.
Did you ever want to leave? Or did you know when you moved in that this was the place?

I've been in my home 11 years, nearly a record for me. Changed schools 14 times by high school graduation. moving, moving, I envy the stability.

I've been catching up with all your posts since the 22! I especially loved your catkins- what a colour- and your spider is the only kind I would have hanging around, too. Thanks for all the visits you make to my corner of blogland. :)

Hi there Maggie. I did this meme a couple of years ago and just went back to make sure it is still me. If you are interested it is located here: http://julesstones.blogspot.com/search?q=pink+shag+carpet
Sorry I don't know how to insert a link for the comments window.

I too have learned that I prefer being in town as opposed to country living. It has taken me a long time to admit that because I so love being in the country. But I do really prefer having access to everything than driving 20 minutes for an errand. Maybe in a few more years when I don't need necessities for the kids my opinion will change.

I love your spider so cute and full of character. I have learned to severely dislike spiders over the years because my mom has always had a huge dislike of them. It was normal as a child for me to see her hit one to oblivion with a broom. She was/is that way because of a childhood illness. She ran a high fever for a few days and it caused her to hallucinate and see spiders. To this very day, any time she runs a low grade fever she sees spiders everywhere crawling on furniture, walls, even us as we talk to her and she concentrates on telling herself it isn't real.

I am sorry I rattled on for a bit there.
Have a blessed and wonderful day today.

I enjoyed finding out more about you Maggie. I had to laugh at your escapade on the Lambretta!

I have lived in 6 houses altogether, the one I'm in now being the longest 32 years.

I'm glad you did the meme, because I learned things about you. I'm like you when it comes to cooking. I used to cook more when I was single, because I thought it was a way to hook a boyfriend (the old "they way to a man's heart is through his stomach") - except it never worked, and if I'd ever "hooked" a man that way he would have been really disappointed to discover that I only knew how to cook about three things.

I am so glad you posted this as I love getting to know a bit more about you and feel that we have quite a bit in common. I did the same thing with a bicycle rather then a scooter though I have a full motorbike licence now. I wasn't taught how to cook anything more substantial then baking either. I'm absolutely a city person and blue is my favourite colour too!

Your 5th house was my 3rd and by my reckoning I have lived in 17 more since then!

Just read all the comments and have forgotten what the post was about LOL.
Oh yes! Like incy wincy spider!
Loved your 7 points and some of course were my memories too, notably about the Lake District which Mum used to call the Leak District because it rained so much LOL
Hey, I did not know you had a go on Dad's Lambretta! When no-one was around I used to get it out of the shed in the back garden and start it up and drive it up and down the back lane!! Dad used to moan that he was always having to fill the tank with petrol/oil mix. It was a two stroke engine. Luv ~ Eddie

In my childhood, as an Army brat, we moved many times but, since my father was an Infantry officer, we always ended up back at Ft. Benning, GA, my birthplace. In my adult years, I moved pretty frequently until I ended up in the Bay area. I have been here 34 years now, in several different houses, mostly rentals. I hate that I am going to have to move from the home I've rented for 13 years but, since retirement, I just cannot afford the $2325/month U. S. rent that it costs - that is my entire half pension. Ihave to be out of here April 1 but I'm not sure where I'm going!!

I really enjoyed learning new things about you. I had a similar crash when I first started riding a bicycle - only I was badly hurt when I crashed into a tree. Why do our instructors always forget about the brakes??
My house sounds a bit like yours with grandkids things all over the place. I try to put them on a chair near the front door, but they still walk straight past them and, of course, it's no good relying on me to remind them! :)

Oh wow, you spent your holidays in Arthur Ransome country.

I truly wish I lived closer so I could pop in and cook for you and Harry as I love cooking.

I am visualising you bouncing in your pram, how funny! Bet your Mum didn't think so though.

You have a good memory, I can't remember anything from when I was that young.

Just read your brothers comment, it made me laugh that he got away with that!!

And the 'Leak' District, hee hee

It's always nice getting to know more things about you. Even when we think we know you very well. But you prove there are always the odd bits of information to be added. I wonder what people don't know about me?

Oh your poor mum! I bet she wasn't happy about missing her place in the queue. I think I've lived in 9 places so far... yup, just added them up! So your five is very impressive. :)

Oh, I used to stand on the corner of the market while waiting for my mom!

Thanks for writing. I am hoping that we stop getting snow. It is coming down fast and thick. Thank God it is Saturday. I feel sorry for those who have to go to work today. Take Care

I just did a partial count, and I lived in more than 16 places before I was 24. There were many more after that, and I am now 61. I have been living in this place for 27 years, and I hope I never have to move again! And I am a country girl, even growing up in the city, I always wanted to live in the country. There is too much noise and pavement, and too many people too close by, in the city. I'm very glad others like the city, however, or there would be less open space to live in!

I like your spider and all that you have said.

I have felt the same way about cooking....until we bought the bread machine and let it do the cooking for us!

What a delightful spider! So cheerful...

41 years is a long time. I lived 9 years in one place - a record for me. But I'd have to take some time to try to figure out how many times I've moved. Many.

Oh, I know it wouldn't have been funny at the time, but you bouncing about in your pram and your mum missing her turn really had me giggling.

I'm useless with meme's too. I don't get many, probably because people know how bad I am!

Hi Maggie! Isn't it wonderful to keep and share what our children and grandchildren bring to us. I'm glad that you shared the spider...and I don't think it's silly at all. As a matter of fact, when your granddaughter sees it on your blog, it will make her heart happy!!! That's a wonderful thing.
I remember camping in a tent when I was a girl....and have fond memories of doing that as a family during the summer months. I loved reading your meme's, my friend.
Warmest hugs and lots of love sent your way from me.
Love,
Jackie

41 years! I lived in the same house for 37 years, and I know how wonderfully attached one can become to some wood and nails and paint. Good for you! You're blessed in that regard, for sure!
