Hiding

Photos Copyright: Maggie May

My rabbits know that every morning they get moved into their large run and get fed with fresh greens and hay, following a cuddle each. So why do they always try and hide when they know that I am on my way to get them? They are playing a game with me, thats why.

Sometimes they try to make themselves very small and hope they won't be noticed and sometimes one of them will jump into the tray, knowing that I won't want to pick up a bunny with a wet tail end.
However, when I went to collect them from their night time cage this morning, they had pulled a piece of newspaper over their heads, hoping that I wouldn't notice them. They really are are very funny but loveable bunnies.

I am a bit dismayed that so many of my blogging friends have suddenly given up and abandoned their blogs. Some of them I have *got to know* after a couple of years of writing and commenting. It seems so sudden not to have any contact from them at all when this happens and I am left wondering how they are getting on, after sharing with them for so long.
Some tell me that they don't feel that they have anything to write about, while others get interested in other things or haven't the time to blog. I feel we all have this happen to us from time to time but to give up completely after three years or so seems very extreme.

When I compare my blog this year with what I was doing a couple of years ago..... I notice that I am not going on so many trips to lovely places that I used to do. My grandchildren are growing up and there are not so many funny stories to tell and I don't seem to be writing about my past or doing memes any more, so I dare say that my blog is not as interesting as it used to be.
However, I do still enjoy writing it regularly and consider it to be like a journal. I have acquired new readers and I am always very pleased to get to know new people. I am also constantly taking photos for the blog. However, there is a definite gap when some one who I consider a good blogging friend gives up.
I suppose it is inevitable with this kind of friendship. It seems to be of the transient type.
What do others feel about it when it happens to them?

It is rather odd when someone you "know" suddenly stops blogging and there's no more contact, but perhaps this is a reminder that we are "virutal" friends, and it's not quite the same as the real thing.

I have a lot of the same issues with posting as you mentioned here, Maggie. Sometimes too I think for me, it is that I have more senior moments and just plain forget to put things into writing ASAP and then, I can't recall what it was I wanted to write about. I guess we all get a bit like that and think of giving it up from time to time.

yes I agree it's crazy they are there one day and gone the next! I'm looking for a job and worry once I find one how well I keep up on blogs! I guess you do your best. Have a wonderful week.

Oh Maggie, I've lost so many blogging friends, some to quitting the blogosphere, some from real calamities. I do understand that it takes a great deal of time and energy to keep up with blogging and responding and visiting.

I wish we could all meet and visit together for a while. Wouldn't it be nice?

It's so funny that Ash and Lily seem to be playing a game with you--I'm sure they look forward to that cuddle every morning.

It makes me sad, too, when blogging friends suddenly "disappear." You feel like you really have formed a bond, and then I worry that something has happened to them when they stop blogging without any explanation. There are times when I'm just too busy or have other priorities to read blogs, but I do try to catch up eventually. I also seem to have turned my focus more to gardening, which may not appeal so much to some of my blogging friends, but the rest of my life seems pretty boring:) I'll be here for a long while, I suspect!

I am starved for writing time just now - the little I have I am spending reading.
But I. AM. NOT. QUITTING. Writing means too much to me.
You think your rabbits are nuts? Try my daughter's dog. We are minding her while daughter is away, and the mutt insisted on staying out overnight during a thunderstorm. Then she shoved her previously white head into the incinerator.
Love the word verification today - it's gyrownse. Lots of ways to use that.

Aw they're so sweet!

It is a shame when people give up on their blogs. I used to post every day when I first started blogging, now I'm down to 3 times a week but I haven't any plans to give up yet. :)

The bunnies are adorable and I love that they "play" with you!

I know what you mean about the blogging bit...I'm really behind in my blog reading and not posting as much as I should. But this post of yours has snapped me to attention and I will be a better blogger and a better blogging buddy. So thanks for the nudge!

Love to hear about life with your beautifyl bunnies. Sorry you're missing your blogging friends, it's hard to see them go. I know I myself have a hard time posting once a week these days. There have been changes in my life and I don't have a much time to think about things, or finish books either. I guess change is inevitable.

I love your blog posts Maggie and always find them very interesting. Thank you so much for popping along to my blog I always appreciate your comments. I have lost a lot of blogger friends recently to, they have just decided it's not for them but I keep thinking they may come back again. You never know. x

Hi Maggie
I think we all get blogged out I was feeling like this a few months back, often its after a series of nasty comments or personal abuse which I guess I have because of the political ness of my blog.It was actually friends who asked me not to stop that influenced me .its hard to write sometimes and to be interesting, but as you say its for us and if people don't want to read that's ok .I also find there isn't he buzz any more. may be blogging now part of the mainstream

The rabbits are funny with their games, keeping you on your toes!! They're much more clever than I would have given them credit for- we found the same with Crash, he'd hide when it was bedtime, we'd go out to the garden to put him in his hutch, and he'd run off!
I know how you feel when a blogger friend gives up, it's a loss I feel too.
Your blog is alwasy a very interesting read, even with fewer trips. You have a beautiful way with words, Maggie.

I'm rather new at blogging and at having blogging friends, so I haven't built the connections that you have. I have thought about some who have seemed to drop off of blogville, I even worry that they are not doing well. I do think that there are some who jump into a new thing, go full throttle, and then jump off. Others get ill, or they have family difficulties etc. For now, I am totally enjoying my blog world. I love reading your posts. I hope you keep it up.

Those rabbits make me laugh!

I too have noticed that several long-time bloggers have stopped writing.. such a shame for us readers.

What with all the writing and photos and sharing, there are some blog friends I feel closer to than my 'real' friend whom i talk to infrequently. It is a strange world, this blogging. I do wonder if some of those who suddenly stop blogging ever miss us who are still here.

I completely understand it is hard to watch people leave the blogging world. You become so involved with their story and kinship.
I have come to let things be as they are like "real" friends they become involved and then become busy. Most of the time they return.

You do have funny bunnies!!

Its interesting how our blogs evolve.

Well, I haven't been mrsrunofthemills.blogspot for very long, and don't feel really that close to the people who follow, or whose blogs I follow. I wouldn't say we were close friends, it's not the same as being 'real' friends is it, and I suppose if they stopped blogging, then I wouldn't be too upset but would realise that they had their reasons and that's fair enough, their choice. What does bug me is when you have a certain number of followers and one drops out... you wonder why?

I've thought about stopping. I don't have much left to say. It's a habit, but one I may quit if I find something else to do or maybe I will just do it less often. I'm still thinking about it. I would miss the contacts. That's what keeps me going.

They are truly adorable and the playful aspect of their personalities make them so endearing.

I know what you mean about bloggers who stop. It's unsettling sometimes, though I do understand how difficult it can be to keep it going at times. My worst struggle when things get busy is keeping up with others' blogs as much as I'd like. That's the first part to suffer.

For me, it's a creative outlet and a place to put my photos. It rarely feels like work but I realize that's just not the same for everyone.

I treasure the folks I come to know through this venue, so I feel your dismay.

Dear Maggie - i wontbe stopping, am just having a "brain-block" together with laptop unwellness (again) and starting back at work after 8 months away. Still part-time, but my dear workmate, Shruti, seems to have saved the "curliest" data problems up for me (as she is off to India on Friday for her wedding I don't mind at all)

I love how the bunnies play like that, you all have such fun together. Zebby thinks if his head is under a blanket then I can't hear him getting up to mischief, bless him.

Hoping the weather is good over the Easter break for you all, Michelle xxx (silent(!)sleeping from "His Nibs")

The stopping bothers me too! I miss them terribly. It truly is a loss!! All so unsettling but what can we do? People move on in their lives and find other things to do. So we have to move on too! Meeting new people and starting a friendship over again. But it is so sad!!

I understand that completely - I find it disconcerting when someone I've been reading pulls the plug and I miss them. Even though I've only met a few bloggers in person, it still feels very much like a community to me, so it's like having a friend move away with no forwarding address.

But I'm not planning on going anywhere - I am coming up on 5 years now with my blog! I have taken a couple of breaks for medical reasons, but I come back within a few weeks because I just miss everyone too much.

I'm still blogging away, Maggie! You can't get rid of me that easily! I agree, it can be really sad when a favourite blog-mate stops posting, it can leave a real hole. I have been rather less productive of late, but I don't think I could give it up. It's a bit of a compulsion, addiction, maybe.

Love your bunnies btw.

I am glad you continue to blog. I think blogging is an important way to stay grounded and to be among fellow travelers. In its way, it is the real thing, but the reality is cerebral. I think it's a good reality check to realize the thoughts we share here become a part of other's reality, experience, understanding. That we are needed and essential in the virtual world. I love reading living writers. It's a wonderful, dynamic experience. And I love the fun your rabbits have!

i hear you...it seems people come and go and every once ina while pop back up if you hang in long enough...and the rabbits they are just playing hide and seek of course...

Certainly, if I were still nursing, I couldn't keep up with my blog. There are days it is hard to catch up, respond to comments, etc. I enjoy it so much, though, but I've only been at it a little over a year and a half. I do spend far too much time at the computer. My doctor tells me I shouldn't be sitting at it more than four hours a day...because of the edema of my feet and ankles and my back pain - 45 years of nursing, and my back surgery 25 years ago, have taken their toll.

I've noticed that I don't post every day as I once did but I try not to let two days go by without writing something. I really have come to care a good deal for my blogging buddies and they are quite important to me.

Your bunnies are good company, aren't they. I would love to have a pet. I so enjoyed my granddogs when I was at their house a couple of weeks ago.

Over the years of blogging, I have said good bye to several bloggers. Most of them got busy in their real lives and I wish them much happiness. At times I stopped blogging for short periods of time but like you, I still want to write in my blog. In my real life I have moved so many times I am used to meeting people and making friends and then moving. So for me, having similar hellos and good byes in blogland is normal.

I've only just begun (December 2010) but have found it to be such an enjoyable pastime that I can't imagine stopping. Circumstances in our lives may change, but we all still have interesting things to say and whether we know it or not, there are people out there who like us for what we are, not what we write about. I think people sometimes underestimate their readers / friends - once we've taken the time to get to know you, we care about what is happening in your life.
