Settling Down

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

Not so long ago when my grandchildren were eating in the central part of the city, these two pigeons were watching with beady eyes for any scraps. We don't often feed them because they can become a nuisance but as there are cafes about I expect that they do make quite a few meals out of left overs.
They look as though they might well be thinking of settling down in that hanging basket.

Speaking of settling down, I'm sure everyone knows it was the Royal Wedding today and I was not going to be watching it intently. I just wanted to see Kate's dress and see the actual church ceremony.
However, once I started to watch I was infected by the patriotism and felt I really wanted to see all of it.
There are times when I am hugely proud to be English and I think that todays Royal event really was an asset to the country.
In these times of unrest, financial hardship and wars and uprisings springing up all over the place, it makes a really wonderful change to share in someone else's happiness and to see the way the crowds in London responded to it. William and Kate who are now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, really did look very genuinely happy and I am sure they stand a very good chance of making a go of their marriage and judging by the looks of pleasure on the cheering faces of the crowds, it seems to be the general feeling.
I am sure that I am not alone in wishing them a happy future together.

Hi Maggie, the same thing happened to me! I was just going to tune in to see her dress and hair and then got caught in it all. It was a lovely day.

Hi, Maggie!

I did not intend to watch the Wedding (coverage here began at 4 am) but as I couldn't sleep anyway, I turned the TV on to "catch the dress". I, too, was impressed by the patriotism of the British people...so much so that my blog today (xoxoxocd)went "Patriotic".

Of course, I had a laugh or two during the broadcast, as well. And my 'Postcards From A Broad" blog (clare-dunn) reflects that. No offense intended, dear English friends, but Sarah's girls looked, well, too funny!

My love to you and yours,
xoxoxo, cd

It was nice to see them clearly enjoying themselves instead of having to see the obvious boredom when Charles walked Diana back down the aisle.

Well, we were all curious as well. Loved it all.

I was like you wanted to check it out to see her dress and sat glue to TV and so happy I did. I wish i was British today so proud of the showing of support. It was a beautiful fairy tale come true. Have a wonderful weekend!

I did not attempt to watch it, but I am glad for a positive event and wish them well.

I started watching at 6am and hardly moved for seven and a half hours! I thought the whole day was fantastic.

I didn't get up early to watch as some of my friends did, but I did watch the Today Show which showed the whole event. I was impressed with the show of patriotism which seems like a lost art here in the US. There's so much negativity all over the world - the wedding was a breath of sunshine - a young couple in love. I wish them the best.

I was up at 3:00 a.m. here in the U.S. to watch the wedding. I loved it and thought it all very lovely. I also hope they are able to achieve a life for themselves that reflects the happiness that they showed today.

As you know, I devoted a post to it. I was very taken with the event myself and I'm a Dutch woman. I loved it all. What great fun.

I also had no intention of watching it but it ended up as a distraction during the labour and birth of my grandson! I'm very gladI did watch it all..it was beautiful from start to finish.

The only similarities between Catherine and myself is that we both got married in white lacy dresses, married a handsome man in uniform and started our married life as Service wifes and all that entails.
I balk at the amount of money the wedding cost, but it seemed to give everyone a much-needed lift. Like you, I am proud to be British, love the fact we are an island and have a monarchy, and don't just say that because I live on the edge of a Royal Estate! They looked so happy. Harry was gorgeous as ever, and don't get me started on the Aston Martin......

I only intended seeing the dress and the ceremony, then perhaps tuning in again for 'the kiss' but I ended up watching it all! I got a lump in my throat more than once watching the crowds having such a great time and their patriotism was wonderful to see.

I'm sure Will and Kate will have a better marriage than Diana and Charles. Will is his mother's son and wouldn't treat his wife they way Charles treated his mother.

Definitely how I see it. I didn't go in for watching the wedding, but an event that can unite a nation in celebration is always a good thing.

I didn't catch the wedding, but I wished for the young couple's happiness. William and his brother lost their mom in a horrible way. I hope her son and his wife know peace and happiness.

I had a dove once make a home in my hanging basket of flowers.

I didn't catch any of that wedding - didn't actually know about it until it was over.

I didn't catch any of it but of course, I wish them (and anyone) happiness in their lives together. Appropriate photo to accompany this post. I wish your pigeons well too. You might want to check that basket for eggs, every now and then...
