Irresistible Or What?

Photos Copyright: Maggie May

I am always quite eager to go out for a little journey if my son asks me to accompany him and it doesn't take much to make me happy!
Some how or other, on such a journey, we often find ourselves in a very large pet shop because Sam knows that I love to look around. On this occasion, I did need a few rabbit supplies, so after I had picked out what I needed, I went to look at the rabbit enclosures and spent some time looking at them. There must be quite a turnover of rabbits because they seem to have different ones there every time I look.
There is always a small section where unwanted rabbits are put up for adoption, which is quite sad. Usually there is a note to say the owner had to move and so couldn't take them to the new home.

Anyway, on this visit something else caught my son's attention and he asked me if I had my camera handy, which I had.
These baby degus were perched on top of a rope ladder and snuggled up together. They stayed like that for the whole of the time we were there. There was a fourth little chap who for some reason didn't want to sit on the ladder next to his siblings but he seemed to be desperate for company and followed our hands around his enclosure. He let us tickle him.
My son decided to take a leaflet on their upkeep and care. I was most surprised by this.
Goodness knows if it will end up with him allowing the girls to have pets.

I had quite a few comments about my injured fox in the last post. I haven't seen the fox since but there is a strong smell of fox in my garden, so it obviously visits, probably at night. I wish I knew how to get rid of the aroma of fox.
Some of you thought the fox might be under the shed. However there is only a couple of inches of space over concrete which means it would be impossible to access and the floor of the shed is intact. The Officer from the RSPCA thought the fox might well have had a very old injury that he learnt to cope with and he described him as chunky. He would have been a forager, he said. So maybe he's not as badly off as we first imagined.

Pleasant when the offspring come for an outing. Hope "your" fox hasn't moved in.

I researched the degus and it seems they do better if there are more than one. If alone, a degu becomes aggressive. They are pretty cute, but seem to need more care than I would be able to provide. Let us know if your son gets some.

Adorable. I suspect Sam was smitten with the little friendly guy.

Glad to know the fox isn't trapped. I don't know what to tell you about getting rid of them. But where were these beasties when you were having trouble with rodents? ;)

Yes, those animals might end up with your grandkids. See what you started? In fact, your rabbits have given all of us ideas.

Interesting animals - wonder whether Sam will get one. The fox thing seems a complete mystery.

I have decided to take a short blogging break - not a lot of time available these days. Love Eddie x

They are cute, and I am one who feels all children should have a pet. Hope you both are well Maggie, xo

I'm glad the fox isn't trapped too, even just to save you the trauma of trying to get him out.
How's your health doing Maggie? So glad to see you're able to be out and about, even occasionally.

Maggie, they are snuggly cute!!!
Pet stores make me happy, too. I love to see the sweet animals...and tend to feel sorry that they aren't all being taken to a happy home right away.
I hug you and love you and hope that you are having a wonderful week.

I hope Sam doesn't let himself in for a misadventure by getting himself one or more of those degus. He better make sure that he gets all the information on them before he does.

Let's just assume that that fox is going to be alright and for you to not worry about it anymore. It is a wild creature after all and possibly very much cap[able of taking care of itself.

Oh what a cute picture! They look so happy together. I would feel for that little one that wasn't part of the snuggle too!! Sounds like he needs a new home?? Ha

Cute little creatures, but I draw the line at pets with long tails like this:) This reminds me of the time my oldest granddaughter went into a pet supply store with me. She was mesmerized by a large rat for sale and even called her mother to see if she could buy it. Her mother wasn't too thrilled with the idea, though she later agreed to a guinea pig. My children had many different pets over the years, but I drew the line at snakes and anything resembling a rat:)

Glad to hear your fox may be doing better than we thought.

Oh how cute are they? :)

I imagine the fox visits you regularly hunting for food. They are territorial and will return.

I've never seen this animal before, so very interesting! I'll have to read up on it.

I have to confess that I had never heard of the Degu(s) before reading your post so I did a little Google research on it via Wikapedia. Interesting, very interesting indeed! And they are cute too! However, it's highly unlikely -since I've never seen them at any pet stores around here -that I will have to concern myself with having one become a pet for Maya or Kurtis. Besides, we already have a full animal house now with two cats, a dog and last week, a Beta fish and small aquarium was added to the household! That makes 1 pet per person now which is -I think -more than adequate, isn't it?

I wonder if one of your neighbours keeps chickens and that might be the attraction for the fox?

After writing this comment, I am off to investigate 'degus'. I also had never heard of them. One more reason I love blogging...I learn something new all the time. Thank you! Glad you had a fun outing with your son. Anxious to hear if he becomes the proud owner of a degu. Take care.
