Successes and Frustrations

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

Since my last post, quite a lot has happened. The weather has been varied and we have had snow, wind rain, sunshine and a mixture of both. It is warmer now, though its best not to depend on it staying that way. Still, it keeps me on my toes and I have winter clothes on but summery ones at the ready.
At least when I search the garden I can find a few flowers which brighten things up.

You might remember that my son, Sam, was on trial in a full time temporary job. Well he was told this week that he'd been successful and was offered it permanently. I'm still not sure exactly what it is but he will be working between three schools and be the manager of all the building work that goes on there. The job has quite a long title, but that is roughly what he will have to do from an office and it entails computer work and administration and getting alongside teams of workers.  Should be ideal for him and it will make a huge difference to the household budget.

We are having to have electrical work done in the house and we've recently had all the wiring tested and have to face quite a lot of remedial work before having a modern consumer board fitted to the meter. The trouble with older houses is that the wiring is so complicated and a lot had been added to it over the years. I reckon it will be several months work (spaced out in small lots) and I daresay will cost an arm and a leg. This has all happened through noticing a hot socket which I had checked. I thought it was going to be a quick job but no such luck.
In the meantime we are trying to be positive about all the other frustrations in our life. Thats all we can do, isn't it.

Congrats about your son's job, sounds great.

Older homes are always my preference but they do have their quirks, like the electrical if it's not been upgraded in a long while. I hope that all goes well.

We are facing some big frustrations here that came as a shock recently. Long, sad story...suffice to say, giving up or giving in is NOT an option.

Hang in there Maggie.

Hugs, G

The most frustrating aspect of my life is always my financial situation and I am always robbing Peter to pay Paul. I am glad that I only rent an apartment and am not responsible for its major upkeep, I would not be able to afford it.

I glad to hear that your son got his job, which is a real achievement in these times. He must have really made a good impression.

Good luck with the electrical work. I hope it doesn't turn out to be too bad of a job.

Soooo happy to hear about Sam's job. I'm glad that it is a permanent position, now. I wish him all the best...as I do for you, my sweet friend. Continued hugs from across the pond to my dear friend, Maggie...

Well done Sam on the job becoming permanent. He must be very pleased.

Electrical problems just can't be left can they? And its never cheap getting repairs. Don't even ask about the electrics in Turkey...shocking (excuse the pun)

Excellent news about Sam's job. I'm sure that's a great relief.

I wish you MANY more successes than frustrations.

That's a lot of good news! Well, apart from the wiring problems...

A positive outlook is best, I've always felt. Negativity makes the bad feel worse and the good feel like it won't last, so why let it take hold? Anyway, congratulations to Sam on the job!

Well, maybe your son netting the job permanently will just be the beginning of things turning around for you and your family. I sure hope so! You certainly have been through enough trials.

Congratulations to your son, Sam, on the permanent job offer!

The electric work may be messy but better safe than sorry eh? Lucky you spotted the hot socket,

Congratulations to Sam on his new job! We lived in an older house for years, and yes, there's always something that needs to be fixed, it seems. But electrical wiring is definitely something that needs to be working properly, no matter the cost.

Here's hoping spring brings you more positives than negatives!

So wonderful about your son's job. I have an older house too but its home, it took several years of one thing at a time plumbing before it was all straightened out. Yours will be much safer.

I wish the spring would stay a while, it would make such a difference...

Almost makes you want to go back to candles and open fires in a big hearth where a pot boiled over the flames?! Good luck with the electrical shenanigans, Maggie. ♥

Yes, it really is all you can do.

Great news about your son's job.

My house is very old and the wiring has proved to be a nightmare over the years.
