Once Upon A Time.............

There was a little yellow door in this tree, suddenly appearing around Christmas time...... a little fairy door. The local children brought gifts of tinsel and tiny Christmas decorations and took obvious delight in opening and shutting the little yellow door. Then in the New Year, disaster struck and the children were really disappointed to see that the door had been removed along with all the decorations.
What wicked person would destroy a fairy dwelling like that?

However, within a couple of weeks the fairies had moved back in the tree, only this time, there were three little doors and a window. Three little patches of lawn with rabbits grazing on them also appeared.
The little doors not only appeal to children as I have seen little old ladies opening these doors and taking delight in going back to their childhood fascination with fairy things.
I really hope that the fairies can be left in peace this time and not be evicted like before.
Who knows, they might go on building up and up into a huge multi-storey dwelling place.

Wonderful story Maggie. Hope the fairies are left in peace. We have a big tree with a hole in it near the base and it has been similarly occupied.

Hi Maggie, I just popped by to say hello to a few blogger friends. I miss you guys, but my life is so busy I just can't find time for blogging.Don't even know if I would remember how to blog!
It's nice to read posts though, and I will try to do that and to comment.

I hope you're well. I like the fairy tree.. Mx

What a lovely idea! I have a little wooden fairy door that leans against the wall by my fireplace. I tell my grandchildren about the fairies that live there but they say it's not true and move the door to show only wall behind it.... so I tell them that it's magic and the fairies don't want to be seen, so they sort of half believe me.... they don't want to totally NOT believe. And anyway, I believe!

Love it, love it, love it! This little old lady would be opening all the doors, peaking in the window and leaving faerie cookies for the wee folk when nobody was looking. LOL. I love stories like this. Can't wait until the really nice weather to put my "hobbit door" outside on the tree in my front yard. It's still too cold here and I can't leave it out all winter as it would be buried in the snow.

Oh well - warmer days are coming - they're just too slow. Maybe this year I'll put a few faerie doors out as well. What fun! Nice post, Maggie.

I can understand the decorations going as it is unlucky to leave them up after Twelfth Night, but why did the door go? Anyway it is good to learn that it has been reinstated. There is still a small child inside all of us!

This is so cute! I would be just as intrigued as the children are with these doors, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Glad to see the fairies have returned, and I hope the mean old troll stays away from them this time:)

Just what I needed to read on this day :) when we saw little doors like these on equipment or buildings I would tell my granddaughter the gremlins live there. At 21 she still believes in them and always spots the doors :)

So sweet. I have seen a few of these doors around town, too. I love the whimsy they evoke in one and all. I love this little fairy apartment. :)

I love it when people do such lovely things just to entertain strangers. Sometimes I have hope for the human race...

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England - now!

And after April, when May follows,
And the whitethroat builds, and all the swallows!
Hark, where my blossomed pear-tree in the hedge
Leans to the field and scatters on the clover
Blossoms and dewdrops - at the bent spray's edge -
That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The first fine careless rapture!
And though the fields look rough with hoary dew
All will be gay when noontide wakes anew
The buttercups, the little children's dower
- Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower!

I have one or two fairies in my living room, but no doors - in case they decided to leave by walking through them! :-)
Perhaps I'll post about them, some time soon...
