Often on my travels I come across strangely shaped objects that seem to have an art form of their own. If I have my camera with me then I snap up the photos and I have already published one or two of these. I decided to make a post out of some of my favourite ones.
The top photo is of Weston Super Mare's Silica Tower. At night time it is brightly lit with lots of rings of bulbs, though I don't often get to see that, travelling mainly during day time.
This tangled wreck of metal was once the pavillion on Weston's Grand Pier that was completely burnt down along with a section of the pier, about a year ago. The metal has now been dismantled and the foundation looks completely flat with nothing on the Pier. The work on the New Pavillion is about to be started and will hopefully be finished next summer.
This is part of a new drainage system at Weston Super Mare. I just happened to like the design and shape of the grille.
Photos are in Bristol now and this is what greets you when you walk into Millenium Square. It is a fairly new sculpture known as The Spine and is the entrance to a car park. I like the shape so it is in the post!
Finally, Bristol Planetarium is this lovely silver globe. I have never been inside it but I think that the outside is quite spectacular.
I wonder which shape you like the best?

My husband is like you Maggie he loves shapes and forms and has some amazing photos of various objects and shapes that have taken his eye.
I like the parking house in Birmingham that looks like a giant egg box !
It's the globe for me, every time. Each one of those facets give a new perspective, but remain an itegral part of the whole. Just like us and life.
Maggie those are some really neat shots. Never seen anything like that first shot. Very interesting. Love that mirrored ball.
the drainage cover is cool, very natural. the last one makes me think of Raiders of the Lost Ark...the people better start running...
I also like different shapes and textures. Of these you have posted, my favorite is the grill cover.
As always, I really enjoy seeing your pictures -very interesting, indeed. I think I like the globe the best of the mix although the first one and also, the "Spine" are intriguing.
They're all interesting, but I'm still taken with the first one of the Silica Tower. I wonder if it were turned on end, if it would screw right into the ground?:)
All those shapes are fascinating Maggie and great to see them. Of all of them I think the one that stirs my emotions most is the wreck of the Grand Pier. Good to know the rebuild in under way.
At first I thought the wreck of the pier was some sort of memorial installment... but it will be carted away, soon?
That grill cover is my favourite - by a small margin!
Actually, the one that impressed me the most was the wreck of the pier. That really was very artistic, as if someone had wanted to make a statement about modern art in the 21st century. I also very much liked the grill. I thought it was very well done for its purpose. All the photos were good and I appreciate you posting them.

Hi Maggie ~ The grill is my favorite. I see mermaids swimming through waves ~ guess I have an overactive imagination! Great shape shots! I love looking at the world through your lens!
Love the grill and the twisted remains of the pier, hard to choose between them. Perhaps by the smallest of margins the pier - looks like something which should be saved as a memorial!
You have a good eye. I love shapes like those and especially things like that drainage grille that doesn't have to be pretty, but is.
I love "B of the Bang" in Manchester, but it is being dismantled because it isn't safe. I'm also still loving the new Hilton Deansgate which I saw today rising above the rest of the city as I drove along the Mancunian way.
Ever cool! What neat shapes! I also like the grill covering. And the Spine. You have a good eye.
You twisted thing you ~ Eddie x
Yes amazing shapes and patterns. The grill cover just grabs the attention.
I don't know if I have a favourite. They are all pretty amazing and fascinating.
I'm enjoying the pictures more and more with each visit! The night picture of the Silica Tower must be stunning!
These are very interesting. That amusement park shot makes me think of a very bad summer!
But I love the fluid spine. I love the way it floats.
I love the different shapes. As I have told you before, your photos are great. I enjoy seeing something different. It seems like I see so much of the same old, same old. Your pictures are so interesting. I wish I could come over for a visit.
How I love photos like this... all shape and colour and texture. Oh, I liked the globe best too!
HI Maggie !! This is so beautiful and lovely !! I loved the way they are designed..Thanks for sharing..Unseen Rajasthan
The grille seems to be winning hands down...I love the fact that there is 'design' in it, not just a plain old grill.
You always have such wonderful pictures. But my favorite is Weston Super Mare's Silica Tower.
Ooh, I adore the silver globe. That's gorgeous.
You certainly have an eye for these sort of photos. I like the way that The Spine moves as I scroll up and down the page.
