While on our recent holiday in Devon/Dorset, we came across some unusual displays of props amongst the plants.
This was the town of Seaton. In fact it is the main roundabout in Seaton and they have used old bicycles to decorate this flower bed. I found it quite fascinating and strangely effective.
This is the main high street in the town of Beer. There are little streams that run on either side of the road and these little planters straggle the streams like tiny bridges. This is just one of many and I think they are rather pretty.
This cartful of flowers was noticed when passing a private garden and I couldn't resist a quick snap. I bet I'm not the only one who took a picture.
These jungle animals were cleverly made of flowers and were in a small public garden, I think it was in Seaton.
Don't you think these two colours go well? Hot and cool.
This fish and the iguana below, were hanging out in a Sidmouth public garden.
They are part of my favourite holiday photos that I wanted to share.

Aren't they lovely. I do like to see how inventive folk are with gardens and flowers. At the first roundabout in our town we have a rowboat filled with flowers as the centre piece, very effective. A x
I enjoyed them very much! Such beautiful colors. Love the bicycles in the garden...here we place them on roadsides where a biker has been killed in an auto accident. Then they decorate a marker of some kind with flowers in front of the bike. It is beautiful and eerie at the same time.

I recall being in Bath once when the city had just won an award for best public gardens - topiary all over the place, adorable teddies in quantity.
This looks even better. Love the iguana. You don't often see this degree of complexity in Canadian gardening - we're prone to summer dry spells and cheapskates about landscaping. One exception, though, is the Niagara River Parkway from Niagara Falls to Niagara on the Lake. If you ever get a chance to go there in the spring or summer, jump at it.
They sure are creative and clever. I love the bicycles and yes, the purple and orange makes a beautiful colour combination. Wonderful photos, Maggie.

Really neat displays, Maggie. My favorite though -well a toss-up -between the floral cart and the little displays bridging the small streams. All were very smart though.

Seton certainly has some lovely displays--there must be some talented gardeners living there! I've seen old bicycles used before in the garden, usually holding some flowers, but nothing like this planting. The last topiary is really clever. Doesn't it make a difference when a town takes the time to plant some gardens around the streets? I think it shows that the people who live there care about their town.
The bicycles in the flower beds is a great idea. You got some really great pictures in the post. I like the streams on the sides of the road. How pretty. The flowers shaped into animals is the best.

I love all the photos. How creative people can be - the bicycles, that cute cart, and the iguana really were amazing. It's nice that people can come up with such neat things.
