To Snow Or Not To Snow.

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

I took this photo back in April when we quite unexpectedly, had a sudden shower of hail.
It didn't last long, but I thought it was rather beautiful and I'm glad that I was able to capture the scene before it melted.
I had meant to post this picture when it happened but the daffodils died back long ago and have been replanted and the moment is over.
Or is it?
I am hoping that our recent warnings of snow will not come near to where I live. I expect anyone who knows me will realise how much I hate walking on the stuff.
Granted, there is beauty in a new fall of snow that stealthily surprises us over night. Snow that hasn't been walked on when everything is fresh and clean.
When this happens there is a real quietness that hangs over everything. This always seems to come with each fall of snow..... the quietness. Have others noticed this?

I like to think that we will get Christmas over before we get any snow and possibly the New Year as well.
A few days ago I was surprised when I saw a woman walking up the road carrying a brand new toboggan because it was fairly sunny.
I called out to her and asked her if she new something about the weather that I didn't. She just laughed.
The toy shops seem to be full of toboggans.
Waiting......

If the worst should come to the worst this year, I have some grips to put on the bottom of my shoes. I ordered them on the internet earlier in the year, but by the time they arrived, the snow was over and I never got to try them out.

I know what you mean about the quietness. But yesterday afternoon I was fooled. Doing a little garden tidy-up I noticed the quietness that often heralds a snow fall and spotted the clouds that looked as if they might be about to release snow, but nothing happened.

Still no snow.......

I always notice the muffled quiet of a fresh snowfall. It tends to absorb the extra noise and it makes me feel more connected to nature around me. Too bad I really don't like the stuff. ;)

I wish you a safe, easy-to-manoeuvre season.

Well, Maggie, by now I think you must be up to your knees in snow. So glad you have something you can walk safely in this year. Won't be long before we are fed up to the back teeth with the winter wonderland that is to come.

I love the quietness of a snowfall but like you am terrified of walking or driving in it. Thankfully no snow here (yet).

You'd hate it here Maggie.

We've just been through a week of -35C to -40C. It still snows when it is that cold.

Good Morning Maggie, it is almost balmy here this morning at -7. We have had a brutal week of cold and snow....snows in Canada no matter the temperature. Hope you are both well...:-)Hugs

I love that quiet. It is as if the snow acts as a giant muffler. There is no snow yet in London but it is certainly cold and dry enough for it! I have my trusty Wellington boots from January - I can walk miles in them, so comfy!

So much for global warming. Today I heard this November is the coldest on record since 1993.
Lovely photo including the sleet. We did not get ant, just 7 miles away from you.
Sorry I have not been around for a while. Life is 'manic' at the moment ~ Eddie

No snow in Reading yet. I hope it doesn't arrive before the weekend as I need to see my Mum tomorrow. I love snow but I hate it when it gets all icy.

This is the second blog mentioning the grippy things for the bottoms of shoes. You tell me if they work okay?

I don't mind the snow, I mind when it gets icy. That's when I fall down on a hip and worry about breaking a bone. I must get better boots and fast. Thanks for reminding me.

I usually don't expect snow over here in the valley floor until after Christmas but surprise surprise.....we had snow a few days ago. It didn't last long but it was enough that school was canceled for the day.
That quietness you spoke of with the fresh snowfall...I love that. I love watching the kids play too so it is hard to decide which I like more.

Blessings to you today.

I too love the quietness of a snowfall. It's about all that I do like about it I'm afraid!

It is a lovely picture, Maggie. Snow does look rather picturesque when stood at the window from the inside, but it's when you out that you suddenly realise how horrid it is!!

I've posted some photos on my blog today of our farm. Taken yesterday, it's covered in the white stuff!

We haven't had a flake of snow fall yet, but other parts of the U.S. have had snow, even a blizzard out West. I always enjoy the first snowfall, but by the end of January, I've seen enough of the white stuff.

Do be careful on the slippery streets, Maggie. I fell in the parking lot while shopping yesterday, even though there was no snow or even wet pavement, for that matter. Fortunately, I just skinned my knee a little and bruised my ego more than anything:)
