Comfortable Feelings

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

Do you ever get a comfortable feeling right from the start of a relationship?
That is how I feel about my son's fairly new girl friend.
We are all comfortable around her. She is similar to us and has the same kind of interests. She is a people person and makes everyone feel special.

Although this relationship has *taken off* quite fast and amazed everybody involved, nobody has been hurt by it. She has two children by a long ago union that finished ages ago. My two grand children adore her and her two children. They are all friendly with each other and one huge attraction is her dogs.
In a recent post, I described them as Choodles..... but I have been informed that they are in fact, Cavapoos. That is a cross between King Charles Cavalier spaniels and Miniature Poodles.
Anyway, by default, we have inherited these dogs as well as two extra *grandchildren*.
It is not at all unusual to be asked if I'd like to go for a walk over the Common with them while they exercise the dogs and I have just had my oldest granddaughter and Sandy's daughter stay the night with us and they have got on really well and have been no trouble at all.
I like the way Sandy has included me in pub lunches and walks and things. I have never had this happen before and I must admit I am enjoying it immensely.
After all the turmoil that everyone has been through over the last few years, this is like a breath of fresh air.
I have been described as pessimistic....... but I am so hoping that the bubble will not burst.

Oh Maggie, that is just lovely to read. She sounds lovely! I think when someone has lived a bit and been through hurtful experiences, it softens us.
Long may it continue, I can see that you're enjoying this new angel in your life. Came at a good time too!

Watching your son enter into a new relationship would give you hope as well as a case of nerves. Hopefully he has learned much from the past and is able to make wise choices for himself as well as his children. She sounds like a caring woman, including you when appropriate and a source of uniting and not dividing in your family.

Isn't it nice when things work out so well from the very start?
Yeah, these dogs would make any child quite happy.

Great that you all feel like a family, nothing in life is certain (as we both know!)
It's just another case of 'live for the moment'
;-)

I think you can tell a lot about a person from the way they behave towards their new love/partner/friend's family and friends; she sounds really lovely and I am so glad for you and all your family

I suppose it's hard not to be pessimistic if there's been bad experiences before but enjoy her for who she is and what she brings to the table. It all sounds quite wonderful.

Now that is some interesting and really good news you had to share here today! How great that there's a new interest in your son's life, someone the girls really like, other children they relate to and two dogs to top it all off! That's terrific! Really nice that she is including you in activities too. You know Maggie, this might just be some of the best medicine you've had given you to date!!!

She sounds like a wonderful addition to your family, Maggie. And it's great that all the children get along. I have been blessed with two wonderful daughters-in-law and an equally wonderful son-in-law; they have brought so many joys to our family--and the more the merrier!

Choodles or Cavapoos...the dogs are adorable; I bet your granddaughters are quite taken with them.

Knowing very much what it is like to have your son take up with a totally... totally... totally... unsuitable woman, I can empathize with you on your relief of your boy's most recent good fortune. Even if it does not work out, at least it is "good from the beginning..."

Yes, I know that sort of feeling. With MY WIFE, I immediately felt that sort of welcome from her family, while my ex's folks were people I never ever got to feel comfortable with.

They're lovely dogs, Maggie. I'm so pleased that you like your son's girlfriend, it's so important to get on isn't it. An extended family sounds wonderful for the lovely family you already have.
