Beating The Storm

Tomorrow in Britain, the clocks go back for Winter time. The only good thing about that is an extra hour in bed. We've been getting up in the dark for sometime now as two of the granddaughters come for breakfast most mornings and we have to make an early start. However, I don't mind it being dark at that time of the day but I do hate dark evenings.
We have had warnings of a storm that is heading our way with 80 mile an hour winds that could cause structural damage. Something to look forward to!
I am hoping that the roof leak (that has behaved itself through some wet weather quite mysteriously) will not be provoked into making a nuisance of itself again, by the storm.

Sam and Sandy seem to be in the best place, as they have gone to Spain for a belated Honeymoon. It should still be warm weather, over there. They were going to meet up with cousins who were also going to be in Spain at the same time. They had booked their individual holidays quite separately without prior knowledge that they would be in the same place at the same time.
One of life's coincidences, as they live thousands of miles apart and don't really communicate regularly.
It is half term here and the children are with their respective other parent/s.

Tomorrow, my daughter is coming over from the east coast, hopefully dodging the predicted bad weather and will take us back to her home for a few days break later on. This will be the first time that I've been away for a long time so whatever comes our way will be a pleasant change for me.
I will be taking winter woollies and weather proof jackets. Surely that will provoke the sun to come out.

Do you prefer darker mornings or darker evenings? Of course, people living in countries further south won't have such extreme differences as we do here, so you might have to imagine what it must be like.

I have no preference to which end of the day is dark. Work goes from before daylight to long after.

I do not like the time change. I would prefer it remain one or the other.

Enjoy your visit.

Our clocks also go back Maggie, and it will be quite nice to have lighter mornings as I have been getting up in the dark to feed the dogs and let them out. Although if I had a choice I would also opt for lighter evenings.

I hope the storms aren't too bad and that you enjoy your break xx

I am with Gail, I don't like the change: it throws my internal clock off! But we will be changing our clocks in a couple of weeks, anyway, just to be in sync with everyone else.
I hope you enjoy your time at your daughter's..

I am looking forward to the lighter mornings because a lot of times I am more than ready to walk Tyke, but it is still so dark outside. However, I don't care for it to get so dark early in the evening. Let's just call it late afternoon. That's the one bad thing about setting back the clock in the fall.

Have a good time at your daughter's house. I hope it will be a bit of a holiday for you and Harry.

I'm with the majority here, this DLST is an annoyance to me. I'd prefer the reality of the days and I just hate the sun going down around 4.

Our clocks change after Halloween.

Enjoy your mini-vacation. A break is as good as a rest...

Hello, my friend...
To know that your Granddaughters are over most mornings for breakfast makes my heart smile the BIGGEST smile ever. How wonderful for you...and for them.
Enjoy each precious moment. I know that you do.
And Sam and his wife being in Spain makes me happy, too! We have family in Spain (Granada)...and we spent 3 weeks in Spain in 1996. Such a wonderful place to be, and I do hope that they have a marvelous time.
Regarding darker mornings vs darker evenings: Since I am a late riser, it doesn't matter to me if the mornings are dark or not. I rarely see them! I am a night owl...and so, it truly doesn't matter about the darker mornings or darker evenings to me.
Receive great big wonderful hugs from me, Maggie.
Love you,
Jackie

Our time change doesn't happen till next weekend. I'm looking forward to the sun coming up earlier, but I agree, I hate those early evenings. It seems like once the sun sets, I don't want to do anything but crawl under a comfy blanket:)

I hope the storm misses you or isn't as bad as predicted. It's always good to get away every once in awhile--enjoy your trip to your daughter's!

I prefer summer, I hate dark mornings and evenings!

I like lighter mornings, the dark ones seem to make it harder for me to get up. We go off of daylight time here soon. I kind of wish they would just leave it one way or the other.

Hope you have a great visit with family and come home cheered and rested.

We're now entering the time when it's dark when I go to work and dark when I come home, so I just don't see daylight and it is deeply depressing. If anything, I would prefor a light morning because getting up in the dark seems so unnatural, but I don't mind coming home and holing up in a warm kitchen in the evening.

Hope you have a good time with your daughter, just drive carefully in the coming storm.

Hope you've a very enjoyable break with your daughter, Maggie, and that you escape the storm.
I think it kind of bypassed Ireland, we had small winds yesterday, and lots of rain, but nothing new there!
I don't mind dark evenings so much, I light a fire and snuggle in. Dark mornings are awful when you've to get up for work!

We had a picture of a tree smashing a car in England right here in our local paper today. I hope it wasn't yours.

Oh Maggie I hate dark both! Roll on summer time! But then that is wishing time by too fast!

I'm so glad to hear you are having some time away, even if you are busy, a change is as good as a rest! Hope it was lovely?

I like light in the morning.
Hope the storm missed both you and your daughter. It sounded bad in the reports that reached the colony.
And we had snow yesterday. Sigh.

I generally like sunshine later in the day. I'm a true lover of summer so daylight saving suits me just fine. But now that we have a place facing east over the water, I'm looking forward to the sunrises through the winter. That they happen earlier for a while is fine with me.

Oh my, I remember the sun going down at 10 at night in summer, and the deep darkness of winter with the fog coming in the front door when we opened it...we change back this weekend, too...but no one bothers to tell the cats and they still expect breakfast when their tummies growl!
hugs
