Was I Too Hasty?

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Was I too hasty in my last post, telling everyone how well the underpinning was going? I think so. You see, we turned the corner and immediately the problems started to happen.
Several fat pipes started to go under the kitchen that we didn't know about. Is this where the rodents are getting in? We will now have to get a firm to check these pipes with CCTV.

Next problem the snow starts to come down faster making it impossible to work. The forecast is snow off and on all week, this doesn't look good. No concreting can be done today and I have a gaping hole under the kitchen.

Sam, my son, has hurt his arm. It has been painful ever since he started digging. He had to go to the minor injury A&E at the local hospital and found that he has damaged a tendon. It will need a weeks rest.
So now I have strange pipes running under the kitchen (over a hundred years old), who knows what state they are in, a gaping hole under the kitchen, a son with a hurt arm, snow and a husband who is not strong enough to do things by himself.
Can things get any worse........ no don't tell me the kitchen could cave in! I need to go out and have a little scream.

That is better. In the mean time I can look at part of my undisturbed garden and wait for the birds to come back. They have been frightened off.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear all the bad news, Maggie. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? At least you have found the possible entryway of the rat. I suppose you will have to hire a man to come and finish the job under your husband's supervision. Too bad about your son's arm. I hope this isn't getting you too down. Too bad about the snow too. It couldn't come at a worse time, could it?

Yep -sure does seem like that old adage about when it rains, it pours, is handing you a big dose there!
Hope things start to turn around for you -no snow, would be a good starting point -and that your son's arm heals properly -and fast -too!
Peace.

Thinking of you in this blizzard, hope son's arm is ready for burrowing out those rodents at a later date.PS: Word verification is "readie" seems rather appropraite!

Being the wife of an ex-builder (retired but still working on our house renovation) I can tell you that this is par for the course with building work. It's a drag isn't it?

Hopefully you will have no more surprises. Hope your sons arm heals quickly.

Oh dear. Umm - at least your not in an Aussie heat wave?

The intact part of your garden looks lovely with the snow falling on it. yes, iknow the current snow falls are not a good thing

I send wellness thoughts to your son's arm and your kitchen. And great big warm huggles to you,

Oh Maggie, I'm so sorry it has all gone pear shaped. I have fingers crossed for you.

Has the snow closed your school?

We've discovered, for ourselves, that nothing is ever straightforward, when trying to get things done to the house. It's a painful process, but worth it, in the end.

Interesting about the pipes. Great photo of the rest of your garden. Hope you manage to get it all sorted out, somehow.

These are the type of days that the phrase "when it rains, it pours" was made for!

I hope things are soon back to normal at your house. Best wishes to Sam on a quick recovery!

Peace - D

Take a deep breath, watch the birds, and try to ignore the kitchen for awhile. Everything will work out eventually.

That's good advice, but I rarely take my own advice. I would have been out there screaming with you, Maggie May:) Hope it all works out soon and that the rat problem gets solved along the way.

Oh rats!

Hope that things sort themselves out and that in the future you are able to laugh about it all.

Oh no Maggie - bad timing. But at least your son's arm has a chance to heal whilst the weather clears up! Hope you get it sorted without any more surprises. A x

Oh Maggie!

It never fails when you start a project. Never! It is always bigger than you thought it was going to be!

My knitting room sits vacant and I moved my machine into my office so I could do some of my orders.

Something always happens to throw a spanner into the works!

What a shame! I always expect jobs to go wrong (which they invariably do), then if they don't, I'm pleasantly surprised. Hope it's sorted out soon.

Oh NO say it ain't so! When it rains, it DOES pour! Here's hoping tomorrow is better!

I think there is something definitely weird in the air these days - no matter where you live.

I hope things get back to normal for you soon.

I am not sure, but I think your son Sam has been mugging in the pictures on your blog. Hmmmm, maybe all of the problems are for attention? ;)

Why is it that things can't be easy? When one thing goes wrong, they just start tumbling. But ya know? I know you will figure it all out and things will be back to normal in no time.

Did you guys get a lot of snow?

Everything looks so pretty with a sprinkling of snow, but, sometimes, as you've shown here, snow causes umpteen problems...
