Beautiful Devon and Dorset

Photos Copyright: Maggie May

These are just some of my favourite photos from my holiday. The first one is in the beautiful garden at Pecorama in Beer. Although Pecorama is for Railway enthusiasts, which applies to my grandsons, there are some beautiful gardens there and I think it is worth going just to see them. Also the entrance fee includes a very long ride on a model railway.

These are typical thatched cottages that are everywhere in Devon and Dorset and these particular ones are overlooking Sidmouth Beach.

This picture was taken from the beach at Beer. The fishermen had to use an electric winch to pull their boats high on the shingle beach after their fishing trips. Many of them take out people who want to catch mackerel.

I love taking photos through archways and there are plenty of these in the Sidmouth Cliff Gardens. However this one was taken in the Pecorama Gardens.

Lyme Regis is a quaint town with old world cottages and beautiful views of the Charmouth cliffs. There are many fossils on Charmouth Beach in the rocks and stones. In Lyme Regis there are shops that specialise in Fossils and semi precious stones and there is also a small museum where many interesting local finds can be seen. This is a photo taken from the gardens overlooking Lyme Bay towards Charmouth where the beach is only accessible at low tide. The sun always seems to strike that sloping field seen here near to the tree. Depending on the weather, the field can be seen in bright yellows or greens but sometimes is shrouded by mist and can hardly be seen at all.

This is a view from the Sidmouth Gardens overlooking the sea. I love these gardens and I love Sidmouth. In fact I love the whole area and I was so grateful to my daughter for taking me to these much loved places again.

I will do a post showing lovely floral displays soon.

Hello Maggie. I was in that part of the world in May (funnily enough, given your blog name!) and it is gorgeous, isn't it? Your photos do it justice, such a lovely part of the country.

Is your blog name from that nursery ryhme - Here we go gathering nuts in May? I am trying to remember how it goes - something about a cold and frosty morning, I think!

What gorgeous pictures; that first gate would be worth the trip alone. A beautiful part of the world you live in.

The archway framed pics are a real treat, and the row of fishing boats on the beach make want to put to sea with them at once! Thanks for a mini break (in my imagination, at least!) :)

Oh my, Maggie! I always -yes ALWAYS -enjoy looking at the pictures you have taken and have posted here. Such a good eye you have to get these pics! Please, keep on with the photography as often as possible as they are always beautiful.

On a side note -thank you so much for you well wishings! I'm pleased to say that I do feel better and better with each passing day -just trying to get reoriented now to sleeping better -again -during the night so I am better rested then to face each day without ending up taking upteen naps every time I seem to turn around. And the upcoming chemo? Not gonna let that annoy me regardless of how hard it may try to do that to me either! Just my way! (My way or the Highway, as that old saying goes, ya know! And right now, that is interpreted in my mind as "Cancer be gone!")

Your photos are wonderful. I loved the boats out of the water. Tell me, do people eat the mackeral? We used to catch this for bait but never ate it. Wondering if it's possible.

I like your portal shots--the world through gateways are so inviting.

Your world is gorgeous.

Really pleased to learn that the chemo and illness are behind you.

I love Sidmouth too! That post brought back some memories. As a teenager I enjoyed several holidays there with my family and I am hoping to visit Sidmouth next year for the first time in many years.

I love the round walkways and greenery! It is beautiful there!

You have such a gift! I took some photos and half of them were bad. I think it is part me, part camera.

I loved this one, Maggie Mae!

I love your photos Maggie, especially the top one. I agree with you that Dorset is beautiful. I was born near Weymouth in a house that overlooked Chesil Beach so have many fond memories of all around that coast. Husband keeps saying we should take a trip and now after seeing your pictures I think we should do it sooner rather than later. A x
