Butterfly

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

I have messed about all summer trying to get a photo of a butterfly! They are so fast.
Some days I haven't got a camera handy and by the time I run in and get it, the pesky thing has flown away.
Other times I have the camera handy and there doesn't seem to be one anywhere in sight.
This time I managed to get a snap of one, but it is not very good. The butterfly is a skipper that seems to thrive for a while around my garden and surrounding neighbour's gardens. It landed on a bamboo plant.
I am not at all happy with the contrast on this photo but as I set out to photograph a butterfly on a plant, earlier this year, I don't think I will have many more visitors of this kind as the weather is on the turn, so it will have to do! Surely no self respecting butterfly is going to venture out in the cold!
Next year there will be a great picture of one!

This is my story and my photo for Photostory Friday, hosted by Cicely and MamaGeek

Studying this now, I realize that I had forgotten to switch over to macro! The vent looks good though, doesn't it :-)

Congratulations on getting a pic of one at last! The catapillars at mine were much easier to catch!!

Hahahahaha! Yeah they do fly fast! I have those moments when there is something worth captivating but I don't have my cam with me!

Maggie -I know there's a problem with my reader -who knows what else too -and I can't figure out how to fix it. I'm using feedburner so you can try to subscribe to get my blog -I don't understand diddly squat about this technical stuff and I've been having these problems with my blog and reader since August 1st! Can't get any answers or help how to resolve them from Blogger either. It took me the better part of August just to get my blog to update on reader and even at that, it take usually several hours after I post before it is recognized whereas before this all happened, I could post and it would be recognized as updated on my reader in a matter of 2-3 minutes. Irritating, for sure!

I think it looks wonderful!!!

I know what you mean. I have spent endless hours wandering around in the garden looking for insects to photograph - nothing. All I could find was an ant, and HE was too small to shoot at!

Hi Maggie!
I know that feeling so well! - Seeing something so beautiful and so wonderful to photograph, running in to get the bloody camera and going back out into the garden to find it (and absolutely all the other wildlife) has ran away! Leaving me standing there for an hour or more looking for anything at all to photograph!

I think they know when you are planning to take a photo! - maybe they are pissed off because they don't get paid royalties for their image! haha
That's my philosophy anyway!
All the best for you! x

Well you got it, didn't you! I've been trying to photograph our resident blackbird. He's a beautiful boy with a bright orange beak ... but he won't sit still. You've inspired me ... I'll keep trying.

I've been trying to do the same thing with dragonflies. You are more successful than I.

Glad that you at least have a picture to show for all of your efforts. Hopefully next year there are abundant butterflies for your photographing pleasure.

Butterflies are definitely not easy to photograph! You did a great job, though, Maggie May. I have been traipsing around trying to capture a Monarch butterfly and finally got one photo, but it was from a distance and not very good. The hardest thing to photograph, though, are hummingbirds. My goal for next year is to get a great hummingbird photo and a good one of a Monarch. Let's hope we are able to get those great pictures!

Hi Maggie,

I'm amazed you managed to even get one photo of a butterfly! Well done you! Even though you're not happy with the photo completely, it's a testament to your resilientness that you got it! Well done!

Very difficult to do butterflies, so you did really well to capture one. I've got one from a butterfly farm we went to on holiday which I'm saving up for PSF (if I have time to do it!) (Missed it this week, where does the time go?)

They are difficult to photograph, aren't they. Always flitting around, never alighting in one spot for very long. Admirable effort!

Hurray for butterflies :)

That's a great vent!! Seriously, I have many shots of butterflies for most of the same reasons. With the exception of the macro lens. I get it switched over but my camera would chose to refocus at the last second.

I bought a bigger camera.

I still take blurry shots.

It was worth a try...

You are all too kind! However, it is good to put a mistake on the net sometimes just so that you can better it. Next year I WILL better it!

I still think it is a good shot. You are too hard on yourself.
