The City of Bath is one of my most favourite places to visit. A city famous for the hot springs that the Romans used and they are still there today! (The springs, that is, not the Romans!) It is a city steeped in Roman history and beautiful buildings. People come from all over the world to be there, and it is quite usual to see official guides taking parties of visitors to the famous sights. As well as visitors from Continental Europe, the Americans and Japanese just love Bath.
The square near the Abbey is where the buskers go and these are usually of a high standard and worth listening to. The pigeons roam about hoping the many picnickers will spare some crumbs. A small version of Trafalgar Square!
This is the weir at Bath, where boat trips take people almost to the edge of it. A place of beauty and tranquility. However it is a dangerous place to be in a small boat as people have been drowned in the weir, sucked down under the waterfalls.
Although Bath is a place of beauty, parts of it are under reconstruction, as are many other places in the South West right now. When it is finished, it will blend in with the older architecture. Until then, there is the inconvenience of dust and noise around certain parts of Bath.
The beautiful weir is not far from all this chaos, but you'd never guess looking at the tranquil pictures, would you?
Yes, I will definitely be coming back to Bath to take more pictures!

I like Bath too Maggie - a beautiful city. I haven't visited for ages, must try to do so again soon. One place I also like to go to there is the American Museum. Very interesting.

I can't believe it's Friday again already, but here you are with Friday's photograph. I haven't been to England and certainly not to Bath, but I do want to go there. It's on my to do list. Can you believe that I am so close by and that I have never been there?
I'm so glad I have blogger friends who take me on such great tours of the scenery in their countries and provide bits of history to accompany those pictures too! Enjoyment and education -simultaneously -can't beat that with a stick now can you?

Lovely post which has brought back lots of happy memories, for me, from my time at university there. I used to see the weir and Pulteney Bridge every day.
Of all the times to visit your blog . .I love Bath. Steeped in history and relaxed and lovley. I had a wonderful week there years ago and my daughter recently retraced my footsteps. It is a gorgeous place. I'm really cranky that so many Australian younglings go to England and think that London is the centre of the universe when there's so much else on offer.
I just stumbled on your blog and find this - lovely. I was just in Bath a month ago and absolutely loved it. Next time I'm in England will definitely go back for more.
Ah yes Bath. I spent my summer school there for my OU degree. I love the place and the Georgian buildings are spectacular. So hilly and I would probably have a heart attack driving up and down those 1 in 12 gradient hills when it snows!

Lovely photos! When we last visited the weir it was very crouded with tourists. I do love Bath, the buildings have such a warm and mellow tone :)

Thank you! I love it when people share their travel photos of Europe. If I could I would live there, I love the architecture and can't get enough of it.
Those are some beautiful photographs. I haven't been to Bath but my dad used to have clients there and told us how lovely it was.

Ahh Beautiful Bath!
I spent many a summer holiday there as a child as my Grandmother lived very close to there.
I hope that these new constructions don't alter the beauty of the city - the last thing they need there is a huge modern monstrosity built of aluminium, glass and concrete!

Bath is a beautiful city and I am very lucky to live so near to it. I would recommend a visit for anyone coming to the UK.

A lovely evocation of Bath! I grew up 30ish miles away and it was my favourite place to go as a teenager/young adult. Stylish, vibrant and steeped in history.

There is so much to do in Bath. I have seen very little of it, so far. I haven't seen the places in your photos, but would like to see them next time we visit.
I've been to the American Museum and to the Georgian house at no 1 Royal Crescent. Both places were well worth a visit.
I love Bath too so thank you for the photos. I applied to the University there, but turned the place down because the journey from the NW of England was too difficult. I still go and visit though.
Hi Maggie. Bath is a beautiful place as your photos show. For some reason (I forget now) I organised a hen party there. It was very civilised though just like the city of Bath!
