This lady granted me permission to take her photo on my recent excursion to Bath. As you can see she was dressed up in a Jane Austen costume!
However, she wasn't the only one! There were several young ladies dressed up in costumes, one of them Japanese, but she went scuffling off before I could ask her for a photo.
Well, its not surprising that so many Jane Austens are about in Bath, as there is a Jane Austen Centre there.

May I ask you a question? Please, don't think I'm stupid. English is not my navite language. I started my blog here in English for practice. I found some interesting bloggers for me to read them.
In this post I couldn't understand one word "Bath"
Of course, I know the meaning - like shower, washing... but what does it mean here? Is it a proper noun?
I would love to dress up like that myself one day, although I think my rock 'n roll hair would not match the hat. What's a Japanese lady doing dressed up like Jane Austen? That would be like me getting dressed up in a kimono. I suppose it is doable. Imagine Jane Austen followers in Japan. Somehow it doesn't seem natural. What must they think of the English when they read books like that? My word verification is aliter.

To answer "just me" - Bath is a proper noun in this context as it is the name of a city in England.
So sweet of her to pose for you and I get disappointed when somebody doesn't.

Do you mean the other people were dressed up as Jane Austen just for fun?
We went to an outdoor music and fireworks evening at Lyme Hall once (used as Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of P & P) and people came to that dressed in Austenesque clothes. They were flipping freezing by 7pm!!
That's cool you visited Bath! I've always wanted to go there I think of the Wife of Bath from Chaucer first then think of Jane Austen. :)

Working Mum....... yes other people were wearing Jane Austen costumes. I saw several. The Japanese just LOVE anything like that from England & they love dressing up too.

Very brave lady. If you want to see genuine Regency costumes the Costume Museum at the Assembly Rooms is well worth a visit.
That's a pretty picture. I wouldn't mind dressing up in Regency costume. It looks quite comfortable, doesn't it? Crinolines must have been a nightmare - uncomfortable and dangerous!
I love it when people enjoy their obsessions enough to dress like them. THAT'S devotion!

Oh, we haven't been to Bath yet! I can't wait though. You can't grow up reading Austen and NOT go see these places. Thanks for posting about it today.
