Too Late For The Hats

I feel so annoyed that there were a good few of you who wanted to knit baby hats for Save The Children and now I have to tell you not to start knitting.

Sorry folks that there was a deadline for the baby hats that has turned out to be tomorrow. 21st October.
I am sure that this dead line was not there last week.
I have five more hats to send & will put them in the post tomorrow morning. There will surely be an overlap but I can understand people not wanting to start knitting now.

Its my fault, I should have posted this sooner. It was in my draft box for a few weeks!

Well I think you had a couple of other things to contend with at the time Maggie! Not to worry. Anyone who is a knitter and charity is bound to have heard of this.

Just so proud of you for all the ones you have knit! What an achievement - well done!

Heavens -don't worry about it. I am glad you posted about the hats. I clicked on the link and I've saved it in my "favourites" folder to look into later on. I am sure this organization will at some other time ask for more knitted hats. Or something else. Or we can start our own group. I'm just glad that you brought this charity group to our attention.
I absolutely love babies and children and would like to do something to help.
Blessings

Surely there will be other places that the hats will be welcomed.
I found out today that one of our local hospitals also has a *hat program.*
Don't feel bad about the deadline, what you have done is wonderful in itself.

Don't be upset about the deadline thing. You have done a wonderful thing helping the little babies with the hats. They look adorable. I need to learn how to knit. I will probably need to get one of those How to Knit for Dummies books. I can barely crochet, only scarves, straight lines. Maybe if you weren't so far you could help me learn. I pray your daughter is getting along good.

I love that you do this for Save the Children. I'm not sure why he deadline, when I worked in my elementary school, we took in the most wonderful knitted hats, gloves and scarves. People are too kind, and so are you.
Take care.

I think new born baby hats would be needed every where, even in European countries, so I bet you'll find a grateful recipient for them yet.

I have just stumbled into your blog. Scf baby hats what a good idea but I have missed it this year but hopefully it will start again next year. Many moons ago I used to knit small jumpers for children 0-5 it is a great wway to use up scrap wool can't recall which charity it might even have been Scf. There'll be another chance I'm sure. A lovely blog to wander around I'll pay another visit soon.

Please don't worry about the deadline.
I am going to knit some hats anyway and see if I can sell them and if i can i will donate the money to save the children. So some good could still come from it and it will keep me busy.

I'm thinking of having a little break, myself. What's a draft box?

Keep knitting everyone. If you do a search on something like "knitting for charity" lots of sites come up. There's always a need for hats for kids (and adults) who are going through Chemo. If I get the chance I will find the web sites and post them.

OK, I just took another look. Literally, under "knitting for charity" there are tons of web sites. SOme are US and some UK - it just depends who you want to knit for. Well done Maggie for pointing everyone in this direction.

Can you still send them in anyway? Maybe the deadline is flexible! My husband who is ultra laidback always seems to find a way round things...he's taught me to think a bit differently....this is what the website says:
"After a fantastically woolly seven months, the Knit One, Save One campaign has now come to an end. If you have hats and messages ready and waiting to be sent then, never fear, just get them to us as soon as possible and we will still make sure they reach vulnerable babies."
So it looks as if it still might be possible! Good luck to you all. I'd join you but my knitting is horrendous...I'll have to do something else...Hx

Thanks for all you kind help and comments. It does seem as thought there are plenty of organizations that will be glad of knitted things and I think it is all very worthwhile!

Hey, you could start now for next year! Did you know there's a program to knit hats for Royal Navy folks?

I think it is great that you have been doing this, what a wonderful thing to do for someone else, and so many hats! I had a try at learning to knit a few months ago, I wasn't very good, and as I'm allergic to wool I reacted. I really ought to try again with some wool that's not wool if you know what I mean!!

Great project to be involved in.
