A Little Grass

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

I have started growing garden grass on the window sills. I really do mean ordinary grass from seed. The kind you sow a garden lawn with. I had thought that having a garden free of a lawn would save me a lot of hard work........ mowing seemed like a real chore and for years I have thought my patios, pebbles and gravel have suited me so well as my garden is very small and easy to maintain apart from occasional pruning. I wish I could say that the above picture was taken in my garden.... but it wasn't. I took the picture when I went out into the country recently. As I now have a rabbit to feed and I know that he loves grass. I never thought I would see the day when I was positively encouraging grass to grow in pots and borders as well as dandelion leaves and flowers.
Ash adores dandelion flowers and I cannot provide enough. He soon polishes off the newly grown grass shoots. My rabbit book tells me that I shouldn't pick any from hedgerows or road sides, so I will have to find something else for him to eat. According to the book he shouldn't eat lettuce either. That was a bit of a surprise really.

I never did get that Spring Cleaning done that I intended to do in my last post. I had said that I was going to start immediately after I had written it, but it wasn't meant to be because a friend called unexpectedly and that was so much better than the cleaning and by the time she left, the urge had gone. I have started cleaning little corners though and moving little piles around the house. It does look a trifle better but still needs an in depth clean eventually.
Tomorrow is another day.

I am also pleased to say that my facial hair has not grown back after drastically shaving it off. The stubble has gone. That was strange, wasn't it?

Gosh Maggie. I wish I could say the same for my facial hair!!

I think I might have to take up waxing soon. Menopause is a vicious beast!

No lettuce for rabbits? How odd!

I would think finding dandelions in fields where there is no possibility of spraying or coverage from exhausts would be the best thing. Have you looked at the foliage that lines the roads? Ick!

Taking care of your rabbit is admirable. I would grow grass too in a window planter or wherever I could to have grass for the rabbit. We get rabbits in our back yard every day, and hubby keeps a certain area of grass longer just for them.

Ash is one lucky rabbit to have found you...you are spoiling him!

Good news about the facial hair...very odd!

My, that's almost funny the idea of growing grass on the windowsill. I thought rabbits ate kitchen refuse.

Can you walk him to a meadow somewhere?

Yes, you could buy a little harnass for him and walk him in a meadow where he could eat to his heart's contend. Wouldn't that be sweet?

Hugs!

I think I heard that about lettuce being bad for rabbits, a little while ago. Very odd. Grass looks pretty though, with the wild flowers.

Glad to hear you won the battle of facial hair, it is a nuisance. I've recently taken to having mine waxed but sure how sensible that was! A x

Why can't you pick dandelions from hedgerows for your rabbit? My son does for his and it's fine.

Glad to hear the dreaded hair hasn't returned.

I am sure if Ash was a 'regular' Rabbit he would eat what he found. Of course everywhere is sprayed but there must be some 'organic' Dandelions. Put a notice on your front gate 'Dandelion leaves needed' on second thoughts no...you'll be getting lorry loads.

Do hope all is going well with you.

Ah Maggie, the cleaning will always be there for you, friends are much more important.
Can't rem if I already told you this, but our rabbit adored leaves from our plum tree! And carrot peelings- we still miss him now when we put the carrot peels in the compost instead.
It's great to hear you're doing so well, and your energy is coming back. Spend it carefully!

Love that you are spoiling Ash!! Too cute!

Well, Maggie May, are you trying various varieties of grass to see which ones would be Ash's favorites? I guess you have to draw the line somewhere!

Glad you're not going to have to worry about the facial hair anymore!!! That would really be a pain. That's one of the irritations I've never yet developed in my old age. Hopefully, it won't happen since I've made it to 65 without it.

If I didn't live across the pond, Maggie, I'd gladly send you all the dandelions Ash could eat:) Strange that he's not supposed to eat lettuce; the wild rabbits here love it.

Spending some time with a friend sounds much better than spring cleaning. The dust just keeps getting thicker here:)

Ash is so lucky to have you as his caretaker. I always thought that rabbits loved lettuce and carrots, too. I understand about the house cleaning, and I wish you good luck with it. Blessings, Marguerite

Our bunny used to love clover and kale and we grew little pots of it especially for him. The things we do to pamper our pets!
Facial hair...the less I say about mine the better.

I love weeds. They are the prettiest flowers.

I am going to grow a grass garden in a pot. I like that idea.
