Rag Jackets

Photos copyright: Maggie May

I have just come back from oncology where I have had my pre assessment and unfortunately my immune system has dipped so low that it doesn't register. So I will have to delay having my chemo for a week.
The doctor told me that 52% of people cannot cope with this chemo and he might stop at four. I am a bit devastated but he did say I was already in remission.
Don't things change in a week? I have gone from elation to despair!
So it looks like I will have to get on with the rag jackets as I won't be going anywhere.
I have offered to make Sam's friend a jacket now as I find it is therapeutic sewing on these little strips. How pathetic is that?
At this rate I shall be providing half the Morris Dancing team with jackets........ NOT!
I shall have to take great care not to get an infection.
I feel tired this month and slightly sick but all my other bloods are fine. Perhaps I do need a rest. I have had a busy month.

Consider it a minor setback on your road to recovery. Remission! Keep that word in mind and sew your way around this blip. Hugs to you.

Yes Maggie, half term must have kept you busy and I am sorry you feel tired and a little sick.

Fantastic news that you are in remission though, and although you might have to delay your treatment, you are far better off having had the 3 or 4 sessions already. It is so hard to see the positives and reasons for things when you are low though isn't it? You have been so strong all the way through and I have nothing but admiration for you.

I don't think your sewing fetish is pathetic at all! So lovely of you to be making an extra one. Keeping busy is a tonic, though tiring, at least sewing is a sitting down job!

I hope you start to feel a little stronger soon. Hang in there. Hugs to you. x

You may be pushing yourself too hard. Perhaps find a good book, and a corner to curl up, and let your body heal, now that you are in remission. Work on the jacket when you feel like it.

The jacket is wonderful, by the way. I love it!

Somebody is not looking after herself properly. I will find out where you live and be round with a pan of chicken soup if you are not careful. Or maybe even cow heel stew......

Chin up! The jackets look great, and you're in remission, right? Maybe you don't need that chemo at all?

You definitely don't want to be on a treatment plan that is doing more harm than good. And great thet you're already in remission. Hang in there.

Oh Maggie how kind you are to offer to make another jacket.

As much as chemo can be stressful it does give us a funny feeling when they say they are unable to continue for a while....it feels like they are taking away our safety net. I do hope you get lots of rest Maggie, build up your immune system so as to continue your treatment. I know you are doing all you can sweetie, I only wish I were able to help you.

Always in my heart and prayers, big hugs to Harry....:-)

"Lord...protect our dear Maggie as her immune system is low. Please take care of her." Amen
I'm glad to hear the doctor remind you that you ARE in remission, dear Maggie.
Hugs and love from Jackie

Wrap yourself up in a bubble and keep all those germs away so you can get on with the chemo asap. I pleased your CT scan was a good one. Take care, get lots of rest and build yourself up ready for the next lot. xx

Maggie, you're in remission! That's good news!
Just take it easy, eat foods rich in zinc (boosts your immune system)- pumpkin seeds, wholegrains and eggs are some.
And rest as much as you can, that helps replenish your immune.
Last piece of advice- rub that cream on your tummy!

You are in remission, Maggie. That is very good news. Just take care of yourself now, so that you don't get too run down and make yourself sick. You've got lots of time to do all sorts of things, There is no rush. You've done a great job on the rag jacket. It looks wonderful. If it's therapeutic than go for it. Only if! Don't run yourself ragged. You're doing great! Congratulations.

Perhaps your body just needs a rest, Maggie; chemo is so hard on the body. Give yourself some time...everyone is going to appreciate those rag jackets, and think how proud you'll be to see them all in your creations at the next Morris dance.

Sending lots of healing thoughts your way,

Rose

You've gone through a lot. Time to rest and let your white blood cells catch up. After all, they have been bombarded out of whack.

Be kind and patient with your body. It needs time and understanding.

Rest is a very good thing to get under any circumstances and I highly recommend that at every and any place where it is opportune! Matter of fact, I'm thinking of doing just that here shortly too. Woke up this a.m. with sinus headache and took an Excedrin, which I realized after I took it that it was an Excedrin PM type so probably will put me to sleep shortly. I'm striving for a bit more rest though, so that's all fine.

I am not sure what is pathetic about sewing rag strips onto a jacket if you enjoy it. Keep sewing and let it be therapeutic.

Fingers crossed for next week.

Yeah do rest - although I'm sure resting must be boring. Sleep and rest are wonderful healers when your body is at war, as yours is. Wish you well.

I'm sorry you can't continue the chemo, but so glad you are in remission!

I think rest and making those adorable jackets will keep your mind off things. I know easier said, but stress and worry are so bad for your body. Now is the time to take care of yourself and build your strength back up. Cancer treatment is such and up and down process, good news one visit, not so good the next, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you.

The good news is that you are in remission, and a rest may give your body time to gather its strength back for one more round of chemo.

Keep up the HOPE!!!!

Sending love, hugs and prayers.

Don't be down, you are a good way through your treatment already and just need to recover a bit before you can continue. And it isn't pathetic to find sewing theraputic; if you enjoy it, and it's not too tiring, then it's good for your mental health which can influence your physical health. Listen to your body and do what it needs.
