I had walked past this carousel several times with out thinking much about it. I didn't have any grandchildren tugging at me and asking for a ride, in fact I had barely noticed it. Suddenly it dawned that I could practice with my new digital camera!
This carousel was turning as fast as it could go. My camera had a setting for *moving objects* and I was aiming for the small part of the ride that had no people on the horses. Not an easy task, but one that would have been impossible with my older camera.
I was amazed to see that the photo hardly looked as though the carousel was moving at all.
Not sure if that is good or bad but it wasn't blurred.
This one was taken using macro and by now, the horse was stationary. Looks inviting, doesn't it? However, I resisted the temptation, remembering my vertigo!
For this picture, I stood back a bit, using a general setting after the merry go round had stopped. I can't help but think it almost seems almost like cheating to have these different settings and I have yet to try to capture a lovely butterfly close up or a fluttering bird.
However, so far I have been very pleased with the results of photos taken with my new camera.
What do others think?
Please remember that I am a technophobe as a rule, so don't blind me with science!

The colors and the movement in these shots is wonderful!! There's just something so timeless and capturing about a carousel...
That second shot should be on a magazine cover Maggie. I love the closeness and perspective of it!
Fantastic! The possibilities are endless.
New cameras are so much fun! I love your 2nd shot of the horse close-up, it is very inviting and well composed! Happy shutter shooting!
great photos!!! excellent - awesome carousel too
that is so cool! I really want a camera that is capable of taking pics of moving objects, since my objects(kids) are always moving!
There's no stopping you now!!!! You have launched your career as an ace photographer!!!! Great thinking!!! A carousel is a wonderful subject for your camera!!! These shots are gorgeous! And you certainly should frame the second one and use it as art in your home!!! It's amazing!!! Love these! ~Janine XO
Well, that's going to open a few photographic opportunities for you - great shots and such detail. Subject reminds me of Mary Poppins! I'd be interested to see what make of camera you have and how you chose it - mine is a model 'T' and black! ~ Eddie

I'd say you and your camera are getting along splendidly. I love the fact that digital cameras can let the techno not so savvy (me included here) come out with good results.
Great captures! I really like the second photo a lot!
Glorious, Maggie. You've captured the bejeweled splendor. I want to ride!
Maggie,
You did great, to say the least. You have captured the magic.
I really like these shots -- the colors are very vibrant.
For my money, close is always (almost) better -- I love that second shot.
Great carousel pictures! I love having a myriad of options on the camera, makes getting the perfect shot easier! ANd it so looks tempting!
Brilliant photos. I could een see the mechanism that makes the horses go up and down.
One day I will have a ride on a real carousel. Never seen one over here.
Ahhh, Carousel's. I like your pictures, I think I can hear the music.
I'dsay, we didn't so badly with that new digital camera ;)

You know Madam? My head spins of the new tech with modern camera today.
Sure, yours did justice with these beautiful shots.

Wouldn't know there was any difference between these and a professional's work. They are really good Maggie. Keep up the good work.
Love Granny
Beautiful photography. The quality of pictures and colors is great.
Great photo's. They are wonderful to look at and took me back to childhood. Strangely I felt a little wistful though as I have no young children anymore to take on these rides! Made me feel that too many years have gone past. A truly wonderful set of pictures that evoked a range of emotions from me.
Brilliant photos! Technology today is wonderful. Hope that you enjoy using your new camera.
You did a great job. These shots are beautiful.
Wonderful pictures. I just love carousels...especially the ones with the rings to grab. :)
Beautiful photos, Maggie May! You and your new camera are getting along fabulously. I love carousels, perhaps it's because it's one of the few rides that doesn't make me dizzy:)
Ah, who can resist a carousel? And they make for great photos. Yours are beautiful!
You are just playing with a new camera? You could have fooled me! I thought you had been using it for some time.
I read Brett Trafford for info on how to use the camera. Here's the link....

Your photo may have been taken just to illustrate my poem called
Dragon Ride
Fun Fairs are fantastically full of surprises,
with Ghost Trains and Dodgems,
Stalls to win prizes
if you can hit targets that go whizzing by.
'Roll up!', the man says, 'Come, give us a try'.
Ferris Wheel on its journey of slow revolution
locks riders in harnesses,
limits the motion
of bucket seats, swinging and straining to fly,
'til folk fervently wish they were not up so high!
Carousel Horses stride out, three abreast,
flaring red nostrils;
no time for a rest
as they prance to the Steam Organ's bellowing cry
which spurs them to silently neigh in reply.
' Whoosh!' goes a Switchback. It can't be ignored
by neck-craning viewers
who loudly applaud
its serpentine carriages, saucy and spry -
a Silhouette Dragon, alive, in the sky.
I absolutely love carousels Maggie, the colours and characters and the music. Your pictures are wonderful. A x

These are great photos! What did we ever do without digital cameras?
You did a great job of it. Those colours are amazing. Carousels have a certain enchantment about them.
Fantastic photos. That is a beautiful carousel, my daughter would go ga-ga.
Maggie I think your pictures look great! I have had my digital camera for quite a while and I never use all of the settings. I need to because my grandson is always on the go. Thanks for showing the different settings.
The colors are amazing and it is sooo inviting! I would want to ride it if I were there!
I clicked to enlarge and it was well worth it. Always loved a good carousel!
I love love LOVE merrygorounds..... great photos..
x
Well done. I have those settings on my itty bitty thing too, must take a closer look.
Love Merrygorounds as much as I hate clowns.
Great photos Maggie. A zoo photographer last year told my daughter that if you want to get a great shot of something moving, and make the background look all blurry, you should move your camera along with the object. I don't think it would have been advisable in the carousel situation though!
No cheating that I can see. It is the eye behind the camera that sees the shot and the camera that takes it.
