Good News and Bad News

Photo Copyright: Maggie May

Life seems to be made up of good things and bad things, yin and yang, light and dark, good and evil........ whatever you want to call it.
I suppose everyone's life is made up like this but I feel that mine especially seems to be all about swings from good news to bad or bad to good.

Well I will list the good things first.
I have had fairly good news that I will not be needing an operation and that the neurology unit have inspected my recent CT scan and have said that some of the abnormalities on my coccyx and pelvis are probably due to radiation damage. Therefore, they will not be needing to see me and I can just go for my 3 monthly checks at my usual hospital.

Spring seems to be in the air. Snowdrops are flowering and other bulbs are pushing through the cold soil.
The weather today is good. Sunny and pleasant.

Friends and son rally round and help and support me.

My daughter came over for the weekend with the grandsons and we had a lovely time.

My son has a lovely new girl friend who seems to like the family and is very kind, in fact exceptionally kind and the granddaughters seem to be really bonding with her. She is the type of person who makes you feel that you've known her a long time.... sort of exceptionally easy to be with. I realise that I'm using the word *exceptionally* an awful lot.

Bad things.........
Harry is still waiting for his appointment with the neurosurgeons to discuss the CT scan that revealed a condition on the brain that we didn't know about.
Because of this condition, he cannot start the drug to help stem the cancer because it might make the condition worse.
This is really bad news as both his conditions are getting worse.
We have to wait a week before we will be told what, if anything to do next.

The grandsons' grandmother fell down four stairs and broke her hip. She was very brave to crawl to the phone while in considerable pain to get help. She lives on her own so it was her instinct for survival, I suppose that gave her the strength. She is now recovering from an operation and doing well. So maybe that should come under good news.

My daughter had to go back home............ the other side of the country. I wish she lived just up the road like my son.

I worry about the new relationship my son has and don't want him or the granddaughters hurt any more. That is as much as I dare write about it.

I wake up in the early hours every morning and cannot get back to sleep and I mull over the problems. That means that I am always tired during the day.

I don't seem to be able to lose weight and eat chocolate each day to console myself and I know I'd never be able to give it up for Lent.

It's good you don't need an operation. You're right life is just a round of ups and downs, which is OK as long as they're aren't too many downs. Sending positive energy and thoughts to help you through the downs. x

No operation is good news. Hope you can get some sleep, all good thoughts sent your way. I'd be wakeful too.

Maggie, Although we've never met face-to-face, I realized from reading this that I love you. I pray God will hold you and Harry in His arms, give you everything you need to meet each day, and bless you with the knowledge that He is well in charge of everything you care about. Don't worry about Lent; give all your cares to Him, for He cares for you.

I am pleased for your health. Take comfort food where you need it. How worrisome for Harry to have to go through all this and then the waiting (for both of you). Wether good news or not so good news, it is generous of you to share it with us, who think about you and wonder...

I am soooo thankful for the good news, and there is a great deal of it, Maggie! Thank you to God.
As Harry continues his wait to discuss the next steps in his treatment, I know that it is hard for you both. Would you give him a great big hug from me from the Southern portion of the USA, please.
I am happy to hear of your son's new girlfriend, and I pray only the BEST for him and for your granddaughters. We love our children and our grandchildren beyond any words known to man, Maggie. I understand your concern completely. I hug you, my sweet friend and want you to eat all the chocolate that you can get your hands on! Chocolate is one of the best comfort foods!!
Love you,
Jackie

Chocolate = good! Weight loss = a secondary problem.
Hope your husband gets his appointment soon; I do know about this wait and wait game. Not fun. I try to read a book with a good plot before bedtime and then imagine what will happen next instead of fretting. Sometimes it even works.
Sending best wishes and congrats on not needing surgery yourself!
One never stops worrying about the kids, but any child of yours will have strength and grace to weather troubles.

Writing down good things as well as bad things in list form like this must be cathartic. We should all do that once in awhile. Hopefully, Harry will be getting information in a week that will help you both know how he is to proceed. It sounds like good news about you not needing an operation.
I hope the new woman in your son's life is a solid influence and a good thing for your son and his girls.

It's to plot out your good and bad times but you do seem to have an awful lot on your plate. So pleased about your good news but concerned for Harry of course. I am sending lots of positive thoughts your way and hope that you will be able to relax your mind soon. x

I don't think you should give up chocolate for lent!! Life's too hard sometimes to give up anything else.

I like this idea of, instead of giving something up, doing a 'random act of kindness' every day through lent. More positive than giving something up but just as poignant?Last year a friend of mine wrote a letter to someone every day for all of lent. She does have a big family and has lots of friends abroad, but it seemed a nice thing to do. I really enjoyed getting a hand written letter in the post.

I'm sorry you are losing sleep, have you tried any remedies?

Your positives are fab, good luck with the less positives.

Best wishes as always.

You have a lot on your plate even though you are basically okay yourself. It's worries about others that are getting to you. In the case of Harry, I can imagine why that is. It seems like a very frustrating situation. I hope you both hear some good news about that soon. You do need a break, son't you? I'm so glad for you, though. Things do look good so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed all the time. Maybe it helps. XOX

The good and the bad, you have much of both. If only they would all balance out so that the bad would just go away, and the good would double.

Take care. You have much that is heaped on your plate. Sending love and hugs...XO

Ah Lent takes me back to when I actually paid attention to all the rituals. You have so much on your plate already. Hope the good news keep getting better; and the bad news disappear completely.

Maggie,
I am sorry that you too are going through so much at once. I often come and read your blog only to see my own mirrored in yours.
I am SO happy to hear that you are not going to be needed the operation. That will make what ever is coming easier.
As for the hubby results all you can do is keep moving forward. Now matter where you are. Just keep moving forward.
Your son will protect his heart and if he doesn't he will learn more about what he needs if this relationship fails.
Keep your head up. Lots of love.

Oh Maggie I wish you didn't have this waiting for Harry's results. This is mostly what causes th sleepless nights I think. Just hope for the best with your son's new girlfriend...it's all you can do.
I'm glad you don't have to have an op. Oh and don't worry about the chocolate eating...you need it at the moment. I always find chocolate so consoling and eat far too much xx

You were on my mind this morning, Ms. Maggie. I hope you will accept a virtual hug! May your day be blessed.

Maggie, you are right on the money...seems like the good and bad equal each other out so that one does not gain more importance over the other. We are about to gain a new daughter in law...our son went thru a very painful breakup with first wife but has really come into his own with this new love...so much like him same interests, so be happy for your son. Hoping they get Harry's situation on the upswing, prayers for you all, I'm sure God will take a hand
hugs

It is good news that you do not need an operation. Fingers crossed that you will soon have good news for Harry. I think that for Lent you should give up worrying as it does not change things. That is easy for me to say. I am not in your shoes.

I'm glad to hear your report from the doctors was a positive one, Maggie--this is good news! But I'm sorry to hear about Harry's dilemma. It seems we're always told to see a doctor immediately when a serious symptom occurs, yet in reality we often have to wait anxiously before we can even get in to see them.

It's no wonder you have trouble sleeping with so much to think about. Forget about the weight right now and enjoy the chocolate!

As always, Maggie, our thoughts are with you and Harry, your son and the grands.

It's time for a 'good news' cycle, right? Soon.

much love,

Maggie dear.. I'm catching up on the last three posts and I'm so sorry that Harry's condition has become more complicated. But I saying YESSS to your own improvements and the fact that there is no need for surgery.

There's a big need for chocolate though.. so enjoy it. My best thoughts, as always, are with you and yours.
