The Waiting Game

The quality of these photos is not brilliant because I took them through the window for obvious reasons.
As I regularly put food out for the sparrows, the pigeons have caught on that they'll be getting a free dinner from the mess that the smaller birds make.... so they line up on the kitchen roof waiting like vultures to seize their opportunity.
Meanwhile, next door's cat stretches out on my small shed roof in whatever sunshine he can find and the birds carry on feeding in an unafraid way.
Occasionally the cat jumps down and tries to seize one of them, just to let them know who is in charge. He's getting too old and very rarely does any damage to them.
So life goes on.

Glad to see you back. Happy end of summer. Crows are so interesting. They have a nest in a Maple tree outside my living room window. Although they had a battle over it with a squirrel this year and there was no offspring from either.

Funnily enough, I get pigeons lining up waiting for the squirrels to finish eating the peanuts I have thrown for them. The silly squirrels take a few and then run off with them to bury them and when they get back for the next batch, the pigeons have already eaten them!

We're all in the waiting game. My birds are quite orderly. And line up with the greedy messy Bluejays going first, then the juncoes and finally the crowd and gulls.

Good to see you back.

A bitter sweet post Maggie.
I've not been around lately but glad to see you are still posting. Your garden looks beautiful. As for pigeons, they're rats with wings!!!

I've always been quite fond of pigeons. They're quite smart; more so than most people think, I believe. Meanwhile, the cat knows the score and bides his/her time...
