Reflections

Photo copyright: Maggie May

This was a photo that I took while staying at my daughter's home on the east coast of England, a year ago. We travelled to some beautiful places in Essex and walked along a canal bank just before dusk. The reflections were really striking and I often go back to look at the photos that I took. This is just one of them.

I am sure that you will all be wondering how I got on with my recent scan and I will let you know when I hear anything. I am also having more scans this week so it might take a while to find anything out. I am learning patience that is not natural to me.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and emails with your good wishes and prayers for Harry & me. It is so heartwarming and I really appreciate it.

View From The Big Wheel

Photo copyright: Maggie May

When I went on the big wheel at Weston Super Mare last summer, there was a really good view of the pier where the pavilion had burnt down the previous year.
The sides have been extended to take a bigger building that has already started to be built, but this is how it looked last August.
I could see right across the Bristol Channel to Wales.

Another Weir

Photo copyright: Maggie May

This photo was taken in Topsham, Devon and is where I spotted this weir, I just had to capture it.
Last time I took a photo of a weir, several people from overseas asked me what the word means. A weir is a low dam built across a river to raise the level of water upstream or regulate its flow.

Topsham Harbour

Photo copyright: Maggie May

I recently went with my family to Topsham in Devon and this is a little harbour that I came across.
The weather was lovely and the company was great.
What more could anyone want?

After the Shower

Photos are copyright of Maggie May.

There is always plenty of rain in England and it is a common sight to see the plants in my garden covered in rain drops.
It is quite refreshing though and saves me having to water the pot plants too often.
The Agapanthus has now died back and the ornamental grass is looking rather tatty before it too, disappears.
I can't believe that it is Autumn already. Seems like we haven't had much of a summer at all.

The Weir

Photo copyright of Maggie May.

This is Pulteney Weir in Bath, Somerset. It is a place I often go to and I never get tired of this lovely Roman city with it's beautiful buildings, waterways and natural hot water springs.
In this picture I was standing on a bridge looking down. On the left is a very unusual bridge that I will be posting about very soon.

Bird On Lily Pad

This photo is the copyright of Maggie May.

I thought I had just taken a picture of a pond with pretty lilies, but can you see a little sparrow about to have a bath?
A little bonus that I discovered afterwards. You may have to strain your eyes!

Jet Stream.....

This photo is copyright of Maggie May.

I have walked past this fountain on many occasions. It is one of two identical ones outside the Bristol City Council House. However, I have never taken too much notice of either of them.
This visit though, I had my camera with me and immediately thought of Watery Wednesday.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the tiny jets of water that had been snapped in time, forever.

Severn Bridge

Photos are copyright of Maggie May.

We went to Severn Beach, near Bristol armed with cameras and thought we would get some really good photos. However, although the day started off with reasonable weather, by the time we got to it, there was a misty fog all over the sea, that obscured most of the detail. I decided to take a picture anyway.

The bridge crosses the River Severn, a treacherous span of water with ferocious tides and stretches out to Wales on the other side. Although the picture is not terribly clear and you cannot see the other side because the bridge is three miles long, this is the quickest way to get to Wales.
This bridge is known as The Second Severn Crossing as it is the second bridge to be built. The first one is still in operation though it is obviously much older and is about half a mile away from this one. On windy days the older bridge has to be closed down. It is possible on a clear day, to see both bridges and that is quite a spectacle.
I will have to try and get a picture of the two, if the opportunity arises.

Bitter Sweet Memories

Photo is the copyright of Maggie May.

This photo was taken while walking along a canal with my daughter and grandsons, on the east coast of England. We walked for miles along the side of the canal and had a very pleasant time. It was taken in the Autumn of last year, not long after the children had lost their dad. It has bitter sweet memories for me, but it is a lovely stretch of waterway.

Mallard on a Wall

Don't you just love the luminous colour on this mallard's neck? I just happened to have my new camera with me and I tried out the special setting for pets! Quite pleased with this one.

Water, Water Everywhere.....

This wall of water is quite refreshing to walk past on a hot, summery day. I wonder if you can see my reflection in it?

Reflections

As I have said before, there is no shortage of watery places where I live!

The Lion King

There are always little nooks and crannies in any city and Bristol is no exception. Turn any corner and there is always something to snap. No end of watery things to choose from.
Well, we are an island surrounded by the stuff. I am quite pleased about that.
However look into the pool below and you will see something that makes my blood boil. Can you spot what it is?

Lonely Beach

There is not much to say about this outlet of fresh water bubbling out into the sea. All the beaches along the Bristol Channel have beaches where the tide goes out a long way. However it does move fairly rapidly.
Not sure what that little black blob was though. Any ideas?

Fancy a Shower Anyone?

I have passed this fountain at Weston Super Mare, Somerset, so many times without thinking. However, on the last visit I suddenly thought of Watery Wednesday! Just as well I had my camera handy! I got a bit splashed taking it as sometimes I get carried away and get too close.
